A Dyson Hot+Cool can warm you without cleaning the air. The HF1 is a heater fan; the HP00 adds a purifying filter. Similar names, a different job. I'd want that distinction settled before paying for the familiar shape.
A fan heater supplies warmth and moves air. A purifier tackles airborne particles; Which? explains that carbon filtration is needed for smells and gases. Neither job automatically includes the other. Dyson's purifying Hot+Cool machines combine them, which makes sense if you want both. If you only need heat or clean air, a separate heater or purifier does that job for less.
For me, the winter question is what you actually want to change about the room. The poll below asks which job would earn a machine its place in your home.
What an hour of warmth really costs
Warmth is the expensive part of this arrangement. MoneySavingExpert puts a typical electric heater in roughly the 53p-an-hour bracket at full power, so I'd settle its likely hours of use before getting attached to a particular model.
The electricity cap's Great Britain average on Direct Debit is 26.32p per kWh for October to December 2026. Our rough flat-out arithmetic comes to about 59.2p an hour for the 2,250 W HF1, 57.9p for the 2,200 W TurboBlade and 55.0p for the HP00, using Currys' 2,090 W figure. That's kilowatts multiplied by the unit rate, as on our appliance running-costs page. Your tariff may differ, and a thermostat cycles the heater rather than leaving it flat out throughout the hour.
The badge doesn't change that arithmetic. MSE's advice is a heater for one room for a short period, central heating for longer stretches or several rooms. The Centre for Sustainable Energy says electric room heaters aren't appropriate as a main heating source. I'd think of one as a top-up for the room you're occupying. If the heating bill itself is the worry, our winter heating help guide is worth a detour.
Placement matters too. Electrical Safety First advises against extension leads, unattended use or running a heater while asleep; it also says to allow a metre from combustible materials and register for recalls. The London Fire Brigade adds that heaters belong away from bedding, curtains and furniture, never under drying clothes.
When heat and filtration share a plug
Those running costs don't disappear when the heater gains a filter. What you gain is a machine that can do both jobs, and that's the reason I'd consider this part of the Dyson range.
The Pure Hot+Cool HP00 has HEPA H13 and activated carbon, with no sensors or app listed. I'd lean towards it if the appeal is simply combining warmth and filtration without paying for app features you won't use.
The Purifier Hot+Cool HP1, listed by our shops as HP11, has HEPA H13 and carbon too, with wider 350° oscillation and a recommended filter change every 12 months. Dyson says it suits well-insulated spaces or occasional use. That qualification fits the short-burst role I'd give any of these heaters.
The HP2 De-NOx, shown as HP12 in the shops, adds K-Carbon and a catalytic formaldehyde filter. Dyson says the catalyst doesn't need replacing; the HEPA and K-Carbon combination still has a one-year life. I'd need a reason to want that extra gas filtration before choosing it over the simpler models.

The fan heaters leave one job out
If cleaner air isn't on your list, the heater fans make a more focused proposition. The HF1 has app control and a thermostat, while the Shark TurboBlade Cool + Heat TH200UK has Thermo IQ automatic temperature control and a remote. Neither is an air purifier; the Shark's Dust Defence filter doesn't make it one.
The HF1 would get my attention for occasional warmth with app scheduling. TechRadar found it raised the temperature by a degree in under two minutes, but its metal edging became too hot to touch. That's useful praise with a practical catch, particularly if you were drawn to the bladeless appearance as reassurance about hot surfaces.
The panel below gathers every listed shop's live price for the HF1.

I'd be more interested in the TurboBlade for personal warmth nearby than for pushing heat across a large room. Ideal Home rated its cooling more highly than its heating, and T3 thought its heating power better suited smaller or well-insulated spaces. T3's roughly 30p-an-hour smart-meter observation reflects that reviewer's use with thermostat cycling; it isn't the flat-out cost above.

The word “cool” needs modest expectations too. In a Mumsnet discussion from 2020, Dyson Hot+Cool owners complained that it moved air without lowering room temperature; Dyson's reply said the machines cool you rather than the room.
Cleaner air starts before the machine
Filtration asks a different question from warmth: what is getting into your air? The Chief Medical Officer puts reducing pollution at source first and ventilation at the centre of tackling unavoidable indoor pollution. That's where I'd begin before choosing a purifier.
NICE recommends ventilation during polluting activities, including using gas cookers, candles and cleaning sprays; its guidance makes no recommendation about air purifiers. Asthma + Lung UK also focuses on ventilation, while advising people to check outdoor pollution and pollen if those are triggers before opening windows.
There is a case for filtration alongside those measures. COMEAP says portable filtration-based cleaners reduce indoor PM2.5 in the short term, but direct evidence of health benefits was weak. A Southampton trial of Dyson purifiers in 50 adults with asthma over 78 weeks reduced pollutants but found no significant improvement in asthma control compared with a dummy filter.
For an air purifier for allergies, I'd keep expectations at Which?'s “could help” level, alongside vacuuming and keeping pets out of the bedroom. The same guide says a purifier won't fix mould's underlying causes, such as excess humidity. Cleaner air is a reasonable aim; a promised change in your symptoms wouldn't be my reason to buy.
Your room needs more than a coverage claim
Once filtration is the job, the room matters more than a long feature list. The EPA explains that clean air delivery rate, or CADR, concerns particles and is quoted separately for smoke, pollen and dust.
I'd want to know how often the machine can clean the room's air, rather than stop at the largest area on the box. Shark's HP150 page gives a particularly useful example: 60m² at one air change an hour becomes 12m² at 4.8 air changes. Both figures describe the same machine. Expert Reviews notes that makers' coverage claims can vary enormously even when CADR doesn't.
For a numerical starting point, AHAM suggests smoke CADR in cubic feet per minute of at least two-thirds of the room's area in square feet. Its example is a 10 by 12 ft room needing 80 cfm; higher ceilings need more. The units matter here, so I'd keep the room measurement and CADR units together when comparing.
The video below is HouseFresh's US guide to choosing a purifier, including CADR and sizing.
NeverChange needs a little translation
Those room assumptions become especially relevant to Shark's purifier range, where the filter's promised life is a big part of the appeal. I'd consider the HP150 for fewer replacement-filter purchases, provided its coverage fits your room at the cleaning rate you want.
The NeverChange5 HP150UK uses NanoSeal HEPA filtration, but the five-year claim is Shark's lab result: a 12m² cleaning area, 12 hours daily on maximum, ending at a 50% fall in CADR. Expert Reviews couldn't verify that longevity. I'd read it as a conditional replacement interval, rather than unchanged cleaning performance throughout.
The Compact Pro HP072UK's five-year lab claim uses a smaller 4m² area, likewise to a 50% decline and without independent long-term verification. Its 23m² headline coverage drops to 4m² at 4.8 air changes an hour. Small enough to place conveniently isn't automatically large enough for the job.

The BreatheClear HP162UK displays particles and VOCs, while T3 liked its low-effort approach and noted the absence of an app. Its up-to-six-year filter life is another unverified maker lab claim, using a 14m² area and a 50% decline in cleaning rate. I'd choose it for that visible pollutant information if an app wouldn't add anything for you.

Dyson's purifiers take different routes
The long-filter-life idea also turns up at Dyson, but I'd separate it from the appeal of a responsive automatic mode. The HushJet Compact HJ10 uses an electrostatic filter rated at 99.97% capture at 0.3 microns, plus carbon. It isn't labelled HEPA H13, and Dyson's page doesn't publish CADR.
I'd put the HJ10 on the shortlist for reacting to changes in the room. TechRadar found its automatic mode detected match smoke in three seconds and cleared it in four minutes, although the dust test was less convincing. Noise measurements differed: TechRadar recorded 29 to 55dB with a phone app; Ideal Home measured 31 to 60dB.

If a purifier fan is what you want, the Purifier Cool PC1, listed as TP11 by shops, has HEPA H13 and carbon without a heater. Dyson recommends replacing its filter every 12 months. That would be my more straightforward Dyson option if warmth is already sorted.
The larger Big+Quiet Formaldehyde BP04 was Expert Reviews' air purifier of the year for 2026. I'd consider it for a bigger room, with the sizing question still in mind. Its CO₂ sensor prompts you to ventilate; sensing that gas doesn't mean filtering it out.
The cards below bring together live prices from every listed shop for the PC1 and BP04.

Pet branding wouldn't settle it for me
For a pet home, I'd still want the filtration and room sizing to earn the recommendation. The Dreame AP10 Pet has a particle CADR of 430 m³/h and an H12 filter, rather than H13. Its stated filter life is six to twelve months, but Dreame's UK store didn't list a replacement filter. I'd resolve that ongoing supply question before buying from the Dreame range.
The AP10 also includes UVC and a negative-ion function. COMEAP warns that some air-cleaning technologies can produce harmful pollutants, and AQEG's assessment associates ionisers with ozone generation. That makes the ion setting worth understanding; neither source establishes that the AP10 itself produces ozone.

The extra job has to earn its place
The ongoing bill looks different once heating is out of the picture. Which? measured purifier electricity costs of about £6 to £45 a year at twelve hours daily on the highest setting. I'd give replacement-filter availability and frequency room in the decision alongside electricity.

I'd pay for a purifying Hot+Cool when both occasional warmth and filtration have a clear place in your room. For a chilly spell at your desk, I'd lean towards a heater fan; for particles when the heating is already doing its job, a properly sized purifier gets my vote. The extra function earns its keep when you'll actually use it.
