The Bosch HHF113BR0B arrives with a GB plug; the Bosch HBG7741B1B has no plug and calls for a 16 A fuse. Both are single built-in ovens, yet the connection behind the cupboard could decide which one belongs in your kitchen before a cleaning setting enters the conversation. I've read the reviewers' tests, makers' sheets and safety guidance, done the running-cost sums and opened the shop listings. For a single-oven housing, I'd begin with the Hisense Hi6 BlackLine BSA66346PDBGUK, then ask whether its pyrolytic cleaning and electrical requirements suit the space.

A built-in oven sits in kitchen furniture; a built-under double goes beneath the worktop and a built-in double usually sits at eye level. A freestanding cooker has its oven and hob in one unit. Here, the housing and circuit come first. Cleaning can make a bigger difference to electricity use than the energy-label class.

Single, double or built-under?

The tape measure settles the first argument. Which? puts a single at about 60cm high, an eye-level built-in double at about 90cm, and a built-under double at about 72cm. Its typical openings are 60cm wide by 60cm, 90cm and 70cm high respectively. The replacement must match the actual cabinet and maker's niche dimensions. Which? also advises 5mm at each side and 35mm behind for ventilation.

The single is flexible: Which? says it can sit below a counter or at eye level. My first comparison is the Hisense Hi6 BlackLine BSA66346PDBGUK. Good Housekeeping Institute lab-tested it, scored it 93/100 and named it its runner-up built-in oven. Its testers praised grilling and roast chicken but found the timer awkward without the manual and some temperature fluctuation. Which? has tested it too; its detailed judgement is for members.

There is a plainer route. Bosch lists the Series 2 HHF113BR0B with a GB plug, a 66-litre cavity and no cleaning system; the HHF113BA0B is the black finish. Which? has tested the HHF113BR0B. The Blomberg ROEN8201B is another fan oven, while the ROEN9202DX has a removable catalytic back liner. Which? has tested the ROEN8201B and the ROEN9202DX; detailed verdicts are for members.

What does a second oven give you?

The second cavity is useful only if its size works for your food. Good Housekeeping says some top ovens suit grilling better than cooking, while Which? warns stated capacity can exceed usable room by 27 litres. Good Housekeeping puts many family-sized ovens at 70 to 75 litres, but a litre figure cannot promise your dish will fit.

For an eye-level built-in double, I'd start with the Hotpoint DIH10DIX. Which? has lab-tested it; of the doubles here, it is the one Which? reviewed most recently, first in November 2025. Hotpoint's fiche gives a 75-litre main cavity and a 38-litre top cavity. Its manual specifies an 880 x 560 x 550 mm opening and a minimum 25 A fuse. The DIH10DB and DIH10DW are the black and white finishes.

The other eye-level doubles are the Blomberg RODN9202DX, Beko CDFY22309X and Bosch MHA133BR0B. Which? has tested the Blomberg, the Beko and the Bosch. Expert Reviews' ease-of-use pick for the Bosch draws on user feedback, rather than its own test. Blomberg specifies catalytic side liners but no back liner.

A built-under double trades main-oven room for a second cavity under the worktop. Which? says two ovens occupy a space only 12cm taller than a single. Bosch rates the NBS533BB0B's main oven at 47 litres and its top at 34 litres, against 71 litres for its HQA534 single. Which? has tested the black Bosch, the stainless finish and the Neff N50 J1ACE2HN0B. Which? warns a turkey might not fit either cavity.

Appliance City and Sonic Direct listed both Bosch finishes on 3 November; Hughes listed the black one, and Appliance City and Hughes listed the Neff. This card shows their live prices with delivery.

One single takes another approach to two temperatures. Which? lab-tested the Samsung Series 4 Dual Cook NV7B44205AS, a single cavity with a divider. The Samsung NV7B44205AK is its black finish, offering separate temperatures in a single-oven opening.

Appliance City and Electricshop listed the black Samsung in stock on 3 November. This card shows the live prices with delivery for that finish.

Will the kitchen's circuit take it?

A matching opening does not settle the connection. Which? says most new electric ovens are hardwired, although plug-in models exist. Bosch's HHF113BR0B has a GB plug and a 13 A fuse rating, while the HQA534BS3B has the same fuse rating but no plug. The HBG7741B1B needs 16 A; Hotpoint's double needs at least 25 A, and Bosch specifies 32 A for another built-in double. Fuse rating alone does not tell me whether it plugs in.

Electrical Safety First says hardwired ovens can need a dedicated circuit and even plug-in ovens may need a separate one. Its guidance suggests a dedicated circuit above 2 kW but does not prohibit an oven under 3 kW on a ring that will not be overloaded. A hob may share the cooker circuit, as our induction hob guide explains. Which? says not to cut a supplied plug off to hardwire an oven.

In England, Approved Document P says fitting a built-in cooker is not notifiable merely because it is built in; a new cooker circuit is notifiable. The Planning Portal also identifies a new cooker circuit as notifiable and recommends a registered installer who can self-certify; its page distinguishes the special-location rules in England and Wales. Approved Document P sets out certification by a registered competent person, registered third-party certifier or building control. I'd take the chosen model's connection details to a qualified electrician and have them confirm whether the existing circuit and housing suit it. That answer belongs before the order.

Pyrolytic, catalytic or steam?

Cleaning is the feature with an electricity cost large enough to change the running-cost picture. Which? describes pyrolytic cleaning as high heat that turns residue to ash, usually over one to four hours. It also says racks may still need washing and the inside of the glass can discolour. Catalytic liners absorb grease during hotter cooking but do less for spills such as sugar; the liners can need replacing. Which?'s tests find steam cleaning nearly as effective as pyrolytic, but a steam-assisted cleaning programme is different from adding steam while cooking.

The Bosch Series 4 HQA534BS3B is the middle point. Bosch specifies 71 litres, added steam, an EcoClean back wall and hydrolytic cleaning, with no plug. Good Housekeeping Institute lab-tested this stainless model, scoring it 77/100; it was strongest at baking but slow to heat without the fan. Which? has tested it too. The HQA534BB3B is the black finish; the HQA574BS3B and HQA574BB3B add pyrolytic cleaning. Which? has tested the HQA574BS3B. Steam cooking does not mean steam cleaning.

The pyrolytic step up includes the Bosch Series 8 HBG7741B1B and Miele H 2465 BP. Which? has lab-tested the Bosch and the Miele. Bosch specifies a 16 A fuse, no plug, 71 litres and Air Fry. I don't have Miele's connection sheet, so its fuse rating and whether it has a plug are questions for Miele's installation instructions and the electrician.

Do the extra cooking modes earn their place?

Added steam and air fry cannot change the opening or supply. Bosch says the HQA534BS3B's Hotair Steam distributes heat and humidity, while Which? says some ovens use a tank to add steam. That does not make them full steam ovens. Bosch describes Air Fry as intensified circulating hot air and includes a tray with Series 8 ovens. Good Housekeeping's Hisense testers found its air fryer function simple to set up.

The Neff N70 B54CR71N0B offers a different kind of space: its Slide&Hide door slides away under the oven. Which? describes the sliding door as handy in tight spaces, and has tested the stainless N70 and the N30 B2CCJ7AK0B. Neff specifies 71 litres, pyrolytic cleaning, air fry, 16 A and no plug for the N70; its N30 sheet lists 13 A and no plug. The graphite N70 B54CR71G0B appears in a Livingetc features piece for bakers, which is a mention rather than a test. I would value the disappearing door where a projecting door gets in the way, while treating the two connections separately.

What does the energy label cost in use?

The label is useful once you read the cavity and mode, rather than the class alone. GB rules put a separate label on each cavity, showing its class, usable volume and kWh per standard cycle for conventional and, where available, fan heating. The test heats a water-soaked standard load. Bosch rates the NBS533BB0B's main cavity A and its top cavity B, but those letters do not tell you which setting you will use most.

I multiplied the makers' label figures by Ofgem's 26.32p per kWh Direct Debit cap rate for 1 October to 31 December 2026, across England, Scotland and Wales. The table gives one standard cycle and 100 such cycles; the maker figures come from the Bosch sheets, Hotpoint fiche and Blomberg product page cited above. Our household running-cost guide uses the same sort of sum.

ModelCavitykWh per cycleRateA cycle100 cycles
Bosch HQA534BS3Bsingle, fan0.69 kWh26.32p18.16p£18.16
Bosch HQA534BS3Bsingle, conventional0.94 kWh26.32p24.74p£24.74

Blomberg RODN9202DXdouble, main oven0.79 kWh26.32p20.79p£20.79
Blomberg RODN9202DXdouble, top oven0.68 kWh26.32p17.90p£17.90
Bosch NBS533BB0Bbuilt-under, main oven (fan)0.71 kWh26.32p18.69p£18.69
Bosch NBS533BB0Bbuilt-under, top oven (conventional)0.83 kWh26.32p21.85p£21.85

On the same HQA534BS3B, fan heating is 18.16p against 24.74p for conventional, a 6.58p difference per cycle or £6.58 across 100. The Hotpoint's top oven is 17.90p against 21.58p for its main, and the Blomberg has the same cheaper-top pattern. The Bosch built-under reverses it: 21.85p in the conventional top cavity against 18.69p in the fan main cavity. That is why I compare cavities and modes before comparing classes.

The standing charge is left out because it applies regardless of oven use. The standard label cycle compares ovens, rather than predicting a roast's bill. The rate carries no VAT this period. Ofgem says the next cap will be announced by 25 November 2026. Which? gives £49.44 a year for the Neff N70 B54CR71N0B under its own method.

Cleaning changes the scale. Which? measured averages of £1.33 a pyrolytic clean and £15.95 a year, 31p and £3.68 for catalytic, and 6p and 67p for steam. Its yearly figures assume one clean a month. A Bosch manual puts one pyrolytic programme at approximately 2.5 to 4.7 kWh: at 26.32p, my sum is 65.80p to £1.24 a clean. The manual is for one Bosch oven, while Which?'s figures are averages across models, so they should not be collapsed into a single prediction. The lower Bosch sum (65.80p) is more than three of the 17.90p cooking cycles, the lowest in the table. How often you run a clean matters more to the bill than the class letter.

Which reviewer picks sit outside these comparisons?

The cards cover models with a named UK review or test and several shop listings, not every oven a reviewer has liked. Good Housekeeping Institute's tested list also names the Miele H2861BP its overall oven, a Beko Pro AeroPerfect AirFry BBIMA13300XC its value pick, and the Russell Hobbs RHFEO7004B its budget pick. Trusted Reviews names the Belling BI903MFCBLK its double-oven choice, and Expert Reviews picks the AEG DUE731110M for built-under doubles. I would keep those names on a wider research list, without making up a multi-shop price comparison for them.

On 3 November 2026, I opened the listings behind every pick. Each code was at two or more shops; eighteen listings marked special order were hidden. Several Neff N50 and N90, Smeg doubles, AEG and other Bosch Series 8 models were among those left out. Each card shows live prices with delivery for listings shops said they had or had on order.

Where I'd compare, and when I'd wait

I would compare the same code across shops only after the kitchen's fit is clear. A single opening points me first to the lab-tested Hisense; an eye-level double to the documented Hotpoint DIH10DIX. A built-under double asks for less main-oven room. The electrician's answer about the circuit comes before a finish or extra mode.

The best reason to wait is an unanswered measurement or electrical question. Once those are settled, I would pay attention to the cleaning work I want to avoid: a pyrolytic cycle can use several cooking cycles' worth of electricity, while the letter on the label describes a standard test. The oven that fits the hole, suits the circuit and has a cleaning method you'll actually use is the one worth comparing across those live shop cards.
