A washer-dryer with a 10.5kg drum may dry only 6kg of the load it has just washed. If you are replacing a machine this winter, I would settle your load size, kitchen space and need for indoor drying before looking at a Black Friday banner.
I've read the independent UK reviews and checked the shops behind these picks. On 3 November 2026, each shop page landed on the right model, matched our comparison and showed it in stock. Our comparison held 131 washing machines and 43 washer-dryers on 2 November, with 69 appliances at three or more shops. The panels show live prices with delivery.
The drum and the label come before the badge
The capacity printed on the front is a limit for a particular load. Which? says 9kg and 10kg are the most popular sizes, though 8kg is adequate for most medium-sized UK households. The quoted capacity usually belongs to the main cottons programme; synthetics may take around half as much. I would pay for a bigger drum only if the loads called for it.
That qualification matters still more with a washer-dryer. Which? puts an 8kg wash at about 11 towels or a bedding set up to king size, while a 5kg dry is about 7 towels or a set up to double. The dry figure is always smaller. This poll asks about the loads you need to handle.
The label offers kWh per 100 eco 40-60 cycles, water per cycle, spin-drying class and spin noise from a standard programme. Which? has tested 1,400rpm machines that left clothes drier than a 1,600rpm model; the spin class, graded A to G by moisture left, is more helpful than rpm. An A for energy use does not tell you its spin class.
The short video from ao.com, a retailer, explains the quoted wash load.
Two reviewed machines for roomy washes
The Haier X Series 11 is where I would begin for an 11kg freestanding washer. Good Housekeeping UK calls it its best washing machine and gives it 85/100. Its testers found effective stain removal on cotton and polycotton, said the deep drum made it easy to load and unload, and noted auto dose, but found some slow touch buttons and washes longer than advertised.
Good Housekeeping tested HW110-BD14397U1, while shops list HW110-BD14397UUK;

The Hisense 5S Series 12kg is the roomier alternative. Good Housekeeping names the white WF5S1245BW its best 12kg washing machine, scoring it 83/100. Its testers liked the reliable stain removal, wide-opening door, automatic dosing and 15-minute quick wash, but found later cycles loud and spin efficiency variable. The label gives 72 dB(A) spin noise, B for spin and 54 kWh per 100 eco washes, beside the Haier's 32 kWh.
The black WF5S1245BB has identical label figures.

A flush worktop changes the shortlist
A big drum need not stick far beyond the worktop. The Hisense 5i KitchenFit washers are freestanding but built to sit flush. Depth decides it: Which? says front-loaders are commonly 85cm tall and about 60cm wide, but depth ranges from 40cm to 70cm and may exclude pipes and hoses. A brochure depth is not the whole installation space.
The 12kg white WF5I1245BWR is 595mm deep. Trusted Reviews named the black version its best washing machine, and its test praised stain removal and auto dosing while finding small loads inefficient and some cycles long. Our comparison has the white version, which has identical label figures, rather than the black machine it tested. Its 32 kWh per 100 cycles and 43 litres a cycle make the label a useful counterpoint to its generous drum.

It liked cleaning even at low temperatures but found some big loads quite wet; its verdict favours homes with one or two people. The white model's label reads 31 kWh per 100 cycles and B for spin.

An integrated washer sits behind a cupboard door, which Which? says can buffer the sound, though installation typically costs around £125 and some retailers will not install one. Good Housekeeping has a reviewed Hoover integrated pick, but our comparison does not hold it. I cannot put a useful live price panel beside it, so there is no integrated recommendation here. The KitchenFit is an answer to the flush look, not a substitute for a cupboard door. This retailer video from ao.com walks through measuring for freestanding and integrated machines.
Bigger loads and fewer creases
The two LG washers make different cases for a bigger load. The Series 4 11kg F4Y511GBLN1 is a Which? Black Friday deals-page pick, with frugal water use and some ease-of-use niggles in its account. Which? says the machines on that page scored well enough in its tests for it to recommend them; a place on the deals page is the claim here. It lists 12 programmes plus steam and sensors that weigh the load. The label gives it an A for spin drying, the only pick here with that spin class, alongside 47 kWh per 100 eco washes and 54 litres per wash. If washing comes out wet on your present machine, I would give that spin class more weight than the shared 1400rpm figure.
The reviewed slate grey model and the white F4Y511WBLN1 are the same Series 4 11kg machine in different colours.

The Series 7 F4X7513TBB gives you 13kg for cottons. Which? also includes it on its deals page, liking that it is quieter than most but warning that the control panel will not suit everyone. It calls the capacity ideal for big families. The label reads 39 kWh per 100 washes, B for spin and 50 litres a wash. The label also says 71 dB(A) for spin; Which?'s quieter-than-most observation comes from its review, not from comparing that number alone. I would shortlist it for regularly large loads, rather than buy its capacity to wash a few things at a time.

Creases make a different case for the Miele WED385 WCS, a 9kg machine. Good Housekeeping names it its best washing machine for minimising creases, with 81/100. Its steam freshen-up and Quick Wash + Pre Iron left shirts with hardly any creases; cotton washes kept to time. They found loading awkward and the polycotton cycle heavy on water and energy. Good Housekeeping says cap dosing only works with Miele's own caps, with no auto dosing for other detergent. Its eco label says 40 kWh per 100 cycles, B for spin and 50 litres per wash. I would shortlist it for creases, without expecting every cycle to match the eco figure.

When does one drum beat two machines?
The appeal of a washer-dryer is plain when there is floor space for one appliance and washing sometimes has to dry indoors. Expert Reviews says it needs a water feed and drain, with no vent. I would choose it for that constraint and for occasional drying, while accepting that a breakdown can stop both jobs. If you have space for a separate washing machine and heat pump dryer, our heat pump tumble dryer guide covers the dryer half of that route.
The trade-off is measurable. Which? calculates that with four washes and three dries a week, a washing machine costs about £64 a year and a heat pump dryer about £54 a year, or £118 together. Its average washer-dryer costs about £80 to wash and £136 to dry, or £216 together: £98 more. Which? says most washer-dryers dry poorly beside dedicated tumble dryers and use cold water while drying. These are typical-use figures, not bills for the picks below.
Time and capacity make the same point in a different way. Good Housekeeping found that many washer-dryers dry at most half their wash capacity, with combined cycles running from about four hours to almost nine and a half. You also cannot wash another load while the first dries. Two separate machines can do those jobs at the same time; if stacked, Beko says they need a stacking kit. The LG WashTower below is a built column instead. This poll is about the space and routine that decide which trade-off matters to you.
Lords Electrical is a retailer, and its walk-through compares the separate and combined arrangements. It helps show the physical choice; the reviewer findings and running-cost sums above make the performance case.
The washer-dryers and the stacked alternative
The Hisense 5S washer-dryer offers a 10.5kg wash but a 6kg dry. Trusted Reviews gave the white WD5S1045BW 4.5 out of 5 in November 2023, finding good stain removal on eco 40-60 and low washing costs, while calling the app setup fiddly and drying expensive. Its verdict makes the 6kg dry capacity a case for occasional use. Expert Reviews chose the same 5S in titanium in its May 2024 roundup and advises against filling the drum when you intend to dry.

The Indesit MyTime IDMA75624 is smaller at 7kg to wash and 5kg to dry. Good Housekeeping names it its best budget washer dryer and gives it 76/100. Its test dealt well with red wine and tea, less well with blood and grease; drying was even but left creases. It found a combined load could finish in under four hours, still longer than the suggested duration. If a smaller wash load suits you and creasing is tolerable, that makes a clearer case than the award alone. Its label shows 45 kWh per 100 wash cycles and 266 kWh per 100 wash-and-dry cycles.

The LG WashTower is an alternative for a room with one appliance's floor space and enough height. It is a washer and heat pump dryer built as one column, with separate 12kg wash and 10kg dry drums, and no combined wash-and-dry cycle. Good Housekeeping named the black WT1210BBTN1 best for energy consumption in its washer-dryer guide, scoring it 92/100. It liked the drying capacity and eye-level controls, though it found the controls cluttered. Trusted Reviews praised its cleaning and control position but found the app finicky. It needs two plugs, and the dryer drains through a hose.
At 600mm wide, 1655mm high and 660mm deep, the height and depth deserve the same attention as the single footprint. The white WT1210WWF and black WT1210BBTN1 share specifications apart from colour. The white is at

What the label costs at the current rate
The kWh figure becomes more useful as a sum. Ofgem's 1 October to 31 December 2026 Direct Debit cap rate is 26.32p per kWh for the average in England, Scotland and Wales. With no VAT on electricity in this period, that is the rate used here. The following sums multiply each label's kWh per 100 cycles by that rate. Our washing machine running-cost page works out what a washing machine costs to run.
For washing alone, the Haier X Series 11 and 12kg KitchenFit each come to about £8.42 per 100 eco washes, while the 10.5kg KitchenFit comes to £8.16. The LG Series 7 is £10.26, Miele WED385 £10.53, LG Series 4 £12.37 and Hisense 5S 12kg £14.21. The WashTower's washer is £12.90 per 100 eco washes. These numbers sharpen a comparison between the reviewed machines, though they do not tell you what their non-eco programmes will cost.
The washer-dryer labels have separate scales for washing alone and a complete wash-and-dry cycle. At the same rate, the Hisense 5S is about £13.69 per 100 washes and £80.28 per 100 complete cycles. The Indesit is £11.84 to wash and £70.01 to wash and dry. The jump explains why the drying routine matters more than a single energy-class letter. The WashTower has separate washer and dryer labels, so it has no combined figure to put on that scale.
The wash-only sums use the standard eco 40-60 label test; the full-cycle sums use the wash-and-dry label. Neither is a reading from your home. Other cycles use different amounts, and the cap changes every three months. I would compare like with like, then return to cleaning, drying and time.
The sale banner is the last decision
A Black Friday search can bring you to a machine that fits, but the banner cannot establish its value on its own. Which? warns that some retailers use misleading 'was' prices and says it tracks actual market prices over six months. Its washing machine expert Rebecca Jakeman says paying more does not guarantee better cleaning; higher-priced machines often add smart features and programmes. I would decide on the model, then compare its live price with delivery at the shops beside it. Our Black Friday 2026 guide and price drops page give that timing some context.
Delivery and the old machine belong in the same decision. Which? says charges and choice of delivery time vary between retailers, and disposal can cost extra. A shop selling a new electrical appliance must offer a free way to dispose of the old one of the same type, including for online purchases, but it may charge to collect it from your home. The transit bolts that hold the drum still during delivery must come out before use; Beko says leaving them in voids the warranty. They are worth keeping for a house move.
There are reviewed machines I have left out. For Good Housekeeping's reviewed Hotpoint 10kg, one of the two shops we compare showed it sold out; for Trusted Reviews' low-running-cost Beko, one shop we compare showed it sold out and another listed it as a special order, leaving one shop. Other reviewer picks are absent from our comparison altogether. Good Housekeeping's overall washer-dryer pick is a different LG model from the one in our catalogue, so its award does not follow it here. A recommendation without a useful live choice of shops would not help with this purchase.

I would let space and drying routine decide the type, then let the label and review narrow the model. For occasional indoor drying with one spot available, the combined drum can earn its place. For regular drying, the capacity, time and Which?'s sums make the separate heat pump route stronger. The useful Black Friday question is what the reviewed model costs across the shops today, with delivery included.
