Every time Sony puts PS Plus on sale, the same complaint fills the comments: why can't I get that price? The answer is in Sony's own wording. Its Days of Play sale this year took up to 33% off a 12-month membership for players who join, and 33% off for members upgrading to Premium. If you've paid every year and just want another year of the plan you're on, that sale wasn't for you.

So the way to pay less depends on where you stand with Sony. I priced every route I could find on 24 October 2026. For anyone paying full price, the cheapest was Sony's own price paid with UK PlayStation Store credit bought below face value, which beat the only UK membership code I found in stock on every tier. If your membership has lapsed, or you're willing to let it, Sony's offers can beat both, and you can pay those with cheaper credit too. Accounts and other countries' codes sit beside all of this in the search results, and I'd leave them there.

What Sony charges

PS Plus comes in three tiers, each sold for one, three or 12 months. These were Sony's UK prices on 24 October 2026.

TierWhat it adds1 month3 months12 months
EssentialOnline multiplayer, monthly games, cloud storage and members' discounts£7.99£21.99£59.99
ExtraEssential plus the Game Catalogue and Ubisoft+ Classics£11.99£34.99£99.99
PremiumExtra plus the Classics Catalogue, game trials, PS5 cloud streaming and the Sony Pictures Catalogue£14.99£43.99£119.99

The year is the one to pay less on. Twelve months of Essential costs about what seven and a half months would at the monthly price. Sony's 12-month prices haven't moved since September 2023, while the one- and three-month plans rose for new and lapsed members in May 2026, Push Square reported. Our PlayStation Plus price list has every plan side by side.

It's worth asking whether you need it at all. Sony says most free-to-play games, Fortnite, Apex Legends and Call of Duty Warzone among them, don't need a membership to play online, though most paid games do, Minecraft included. On a PS4, Sony also says that from January 2026 PS4 games are added to the monthly games and Game Catalogue only now and then.

If you're torn between tiers, SpawnPoiint's nine-minute video goes through what each one gives. It was made in December 2025, before the May rises, so the prices above are the ones to go by.

Paying Sony's price with cheaper credit

PS Plus is bought on the PlayStation Store, and the Store takes credit from your wallet, the balance that PlayStation Store gift cards add to. Sony's terms say a renewal is taken from the wallet first, with any shortfall charged to your card. So a UK gift card bought for less than its face value takes the same amount off PS Plus, on any tier, sale or no sale.

ShopToShopTo.NetShopTo.net is a UK online retailer built around video games, consoles, digital downloads and gift cards for PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox. It also stocks TVs, laptops and tablets.Buying guide · View store → sells UK PlayStation Store cards below face value. On 24 October 2026 its £50 card was £44.85 and its £100 card £85.85, with the £10 and £20 cards at £9.15 and £18.85. Together, they paid for each 12-month plan for less than Sony or the UK code:

12 months ofSony's priceCheapest UK codeShopTo cards that cover it
Essential£59.99£58.49£54.00 (£50 and £10 cards)
Extra£99.99£97.99£85.85 (£100 card)
Premium£119.99£115.99£104.70 (£100 and £20 cards)

Each leaves 1p in the wallet. Loaded had its £50 UK card at £45.99 the same day, a little more than ShopTo. Card prices move, so I'd look at our pages for the £50, £100, £20 and £10 cards before buying: they show each shop's price today, with any fee its feed gives. ShopTo titles its cards for UK accounts, and that matters, because Sony says a card has to match your account's region.

The neat part is the renewal. If you're happy on auto-renew, you don't have to cancel anything. Redeem the credit before the renewal date and Sony takes the payment from the wallet. Its terms say it emails you before each payment is due, which is your cue.

High-street shops don't help here. The PlayStation Plus pages at Currys and Argos sell the same cards at face value.

The one UK code I found in stock

If you'd rather have a membership code, perhaps as a present, CJS CD KeysCJS CD KeysCJS CD Keys sells digital game keys, software licences, subscriptions and pre-loaded game accounts for Steam, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo and PC, delivered online through its AutokBuying guide · View store → was the only shop I found with UK 12-month codes in stock on 24 October 2026: Essential at £58.49, Extra at £97.99 and Premium at £115.99, each page saying it activates in the United Kingdom, and CJS says it adds no payment fees. CJS also says it guarantees a working key or your money back. Loaded listed UK memberships too, all sold out. The UK 12-month listings at KinguinKinguinKinguin is a marketplace for digital goods rather than a traditional retailer, so what you buy here is a code, key or top-up delivered electronically. Its game keys appear in our gamBuying guide · View store → had no PS Plus at all.

If you searched for CDKeys, that name now belongs to Loaded: CDKeys.com became Loaded in September 2025, and it isn't the same company as CJS CD Keys.

Two things are worth knowing before you buy a code. The shorter ones are poor value: CJS had one month of Essential at £22.64 and three months at £52.99, against Sony's £7.99 and £21.99. And a code adds less time on a higher tier. Sony's voucher guide says a 12-month PS Plus voucher gives 365 days on Essential but 219 on Extra and 183 on Premium. So I'd buy the code for the tier you're on, or change plan before redeeming, which is how Sony says to put a code towards a different tier. Some subscription codes also need a payment method on the account before they'll redeem.

Each membership has its own page with today's prices, Sony's beside the shops': Essential, Extra and Premium for 12 months.

When Sony's own offers win

Sony's PS Plus sales come round at Days of Play, from late May, and at Black Friday, with smaller ones for selected accounts in between. Days of Play 2026 ran from 27 May to 10 June and took 12 months of Premium to £80.39, Extra to £74.99 and Essential to £47.99 on Sony's UK page. Black Friday has brought a PS Plus sale in late November in each of the last three years. In 2025 Premium was £80.39 and Extra £74.99, with Essential left at full price. Sony hadn't announced anything for Black Friday 2026 by 24 October.

The catch is who they're for. Sony's posts offer the sale price to players who join and the upgrade discount to current members moving to Premium, and Push Square noted in May 2026 that extending the tier you're already on doesn't qualify, though it did in 2023. Sony's terms say offers vary by country, subscriber and subscriber status, and that a promotional discount covers the first payment only, with renewals at the regular price.

You can still pay a sale price with cheaper credit. During Days of Play 2026, a hotukdeals poster worked out a year of Premium at £71.24 in total, using £70 of ShopToShopTo.NetShopTo.net is a UK online retailer built around video games, consoles, digital downloads and gift cards for PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox. It also stocks TVs, laptops and tablets.Buying guide · View store → credit.

The offer behind Cancel

Members also report a quieter route. Going to cancel in Account Management sometimes brings up an offer to stay. A hotukdeals post in August 2026 showed 12 months of Premium for £89.99 after those steps, "perhaps for selected accounts". In a UK thread on r/PS5 during Black Friday 2025, one member was offered 25% off another year after pressing Cancel, while another saw only full price. Sony doesn't document it, so it's a maybe.

Looking costs nothing. Sony says that after cancelling you keep every benefit until the end of the time you've paid for, and you can reactivate before the next payment date. Our page on cancelling PS Plus has Sony's steps for the web, a PS5 and the app.

Some people go further and let the membership run out, then wait for an offer to come back. Honest Rob's eight-minute video from February 2026 shows that route with UK prices.

Lapsing has costs of its own. Sony says the monthly games you claimed are no longer available once a membership ends, and online play in most games needs a membership. If you pay monthly or every three months at a price from before May 2026, lapsing means rejoining at the new one: Sony said the rise reaches current subscribers once a subscription changes or lapses. Lapsed offers can be generous when they come, such as one in July 2025 that hotukdeals posters paid £33.25 for with credit, but they go to selected accounts.

If Sony has offered you a lower price, I'd like to know where.

Upgrading, stacking and codes

Buying more time while you're still a member is allowed. Sony says a new membership starts when the current one ends, so full-price years and codes stack. Discounted years mostly don't, though several hotukdeals commenters say one did for them, so it varies by account.

Upgrading is where stacked time bites. Sony charges a pro-rated fee for the time left, and stacked time has to be upgraded all at once. One hotukdeals commenter with Essential stacked until 2031 said a year of Premium would mean upgrading all of it, at over £300. Upgrades are discounted in Sony's sales too, with 33% off moving from Essential or Extra to Premium at this year's Days of Play. If you might want Premium later, I'd stack less.

Listings I'd skip

A search for cheap PS Plus turns up things that aren't what they look like.

  • Accounts. On 24 October KinguinKinguinKinguin is a marketplace for digital goods rather than a traditional retailer, so what you buy here is a code, key or top-up delivered electronically. The range covers PC game keys3 current offers · View store → listed a 12-month Essential "account" at £32.54. Its page says that isn't a product key but a new account, and that changes such as adding a payment method may get it banned, with no refund. G2AG2AG2A is an online marketplace for digital goods, with listings for PC game keys, Windows and Office licence keys, gift cards and subscription accounts. Many items come from third-paBuying guide · View store → shows sponsored account listings on its UK code's page. Sony's terms forbid buying accounts, and a membership on someone else's account does nothing for yours.
  • Other countries' codes. Shops list US, German and other codes beside the UK ones. Sony says a code must be for your account's region, and that an account's region can't be changed.
  • Credit sold as a membership. Amazon's £50 card is titled for "PlayStation Plus Essential | 12 months", but it's £50 of credit at face value, short of the £59.99 a year costs. Electronic First's 12-month membership at £54.99 arrives as gift cards, its page says, and the Premium year at Livecards for £105.49 is £120 of PSN cards. Credit works, but on 24 October the same credit cost less at ShopToShopTo.NetShopTo.net is a UK online retailer built around video games, consoles, digital downloads and gift cards for PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox. It also stocks TVs, laptops and tablets.Buying guide · View store →.
  • Short plans at long prices. A Kinguin seller wanted £42.84 for three months of Essential before fees, against £21.99 from Sony.

Refunds differ too. A membership bought on the PlayStation Store comes with Sony's 14-day refund window, though the refund may be reduced for the time you've used, but that policy doesn't cover cards or codes from other shops, which are the shop's to sort out. Our guide to whether game key sites are legit goes through each shop's terms.

What I'd do

If you're renewing the plan you're on, I'd first open the cancel screen to see whether Sony offers anything to stay, since reactivating is one button. If nothing comes up, I'd leave auto-renew on and redeem discounted UK credit before the payment date: on 24 October 2026 that took a year of Essential to £54.00, Extra to £85.85 and Premium to £104.70. If you've lapsed or never joined, I'd wait for Sony's offer, which has come at Black Friday three years running (though Essential missed out in 2025), and pay it with credit.
