When I started typing "christmas gifts for dad" into Google in October 2026, it offered to finish the search for me: "who wants nothing", and "who have everything". That's the problem in two phrases. You ask what he'd like, he says not to bother, and you've already bought him the socks, the mug and the book about the war.

The short answer: I'd start from what he already spends his time on, whether that's his food, his drink, his garden or the sport he watches, and buy something he'll use up or go and do rather than another thing to keep. Between a few pounds and about £60 that's easy to find from UK shops, and it's harder to get wrong than a gadget. If it's going to have his name on it, give the maker up to a month. Either way, check the shop's own Christmas delivery page before you pay.

Below are grids of picks from UK shops, grouped by what he's into, with the reason each one is there. If you'd rather browse, our gifts for dad collection holds everything we list for him, though it mixes Christmas presents in with cards and Father's Day gifts.

Start with what he already does

The most useful thing I found while researching this isn't a product. In a set of experiments by Francesca Gino and Francis Flynn, published in 2011, people appreciated a gift they'd asked for more than one they hadn't, while the givers assumed both would go down equally well. In other words, the surprise matters more to us than to him.

So if he has ever mentioned something specific, buy that. If he hasn't, the next best clue is how he spends a Saturday. A gift tied to a habit he already has gets used, while a general "present for a man" tends to end up in a drawer. It happens often enough: a Which? survey found that 21% of people got an unwanted or unsuitable present for Christmas 2024.

For the dad who cooks, or just eats

Food is my default for a dad who says he wants nothing. It gets used, it doesn't need a shelf, and if he doesn't love it, someone else in the house will.

For a dad who cooks, I'd pick something that changes a meal he already makes. The Cornish Smoke Squad set from The Cornish Larder on Not On The High StreetNot On The High StreetNot On The High Street is a marketplace of independent UK makers rather than a single retailer, so the range runs from personalised jewellery and homeware to food, experience days Buying guide · View store → is six 150ml hot sauces made in small batches in Cornwall, and Ross & Ross's steak and chips kit adds a steak rub, roast potato oil, truffle mayonnaise and salt and vinegar salt to a Saturday dinner. It's a boxed gift too deep for the letterbox, so someone has to be in. Tyga's set of four curry kits, each serving four, comes with the spices and pastes for each one.

For a dad who'd rather eat than cook, The Real Cure's letterbox hamper holds five cured meats made in Dorset, Manfood's pickle box is four 300g jars of pickles and chutneys, and Billy Franks' jerky collection is six packs of beef and turkey jerky. Butlers' letterbox of three Lancashire cheeses is sent chilled, costs £4 to send rather than going free, and only leaves on a Monday to Wednesday, so plan it rather than leave it late. Manfood's Whisky Lover's Trio is three whisky marmalades and jams, not a bottle, though the seller still sells it only to over-18s.

From other shops, the TruffleHunterTruffleHunterTruffleHunter sells fresh truffles alongside truffle oils, condiments, seasonings and gift sets, with a strong focus on UK shoppers. Drinks, for the dad who enjoys one

If your dad likes a drink, a small, good one is a better present than a big bottle. These are for adults. Most of the shops below ask the buyer to confirm they're over 18, and courier hampers usually have to be signed for, so send them where someone will be in. If he's cutting down, the alcohol-free set below is a present in its own right, not a consolation.

The Christmas stout hamper from QWERTY Beer Box on Not On The High Street holds three Irish stouts, a Guinness pint glass and three snacks, and was £39.74 in October 2026 against a full price of £52.99. For a whisky drinker, Letter Box Hamper's whisky letterbox holds two 50ml single malts, Jura 10 and Glenmorangie 12, with shortbread and cashews, which is a way to try something rather than a bottle to finish.

Drinks gifts for dad

There's more in our drinks gifts collection, though much of it is champagne and gin, and some of it costs well over £60.

The garden and the shed

For a dad who's happiest outside, tools are only a good present if they're better than what he has, or more personal. The fork and trowel set from Hot Dot Laser, a York seller on Not On The High StreetNot On The High StreetNot On The High Street is a marketplace of independent UK makers rather than a single retailer, so the range runs from personalised jewellery and homeware to food, experience days Buying guide · View store →, does the second: a hand fork and trowel in metal and wood, each engraved with your own words, £28 in October 2026. The same seller engraves a hickory-handled claw hammer and a leather tool belt for the shed.

For a garden that already has every tool, I'd look at the wildlife. A wooden bird nest box from Twenty-Seven is made from FSC timber with a message engraved on it, and Seedball's hedgehog highway is a steel surround for a gap in the fence, so hedgehogs can move between gardens. Willsow's RHS 2027 calendar has a plantable insert with veg and herb seeds for every month, and the Japanese maple kit from Yugen Bonsai, which starts from seed, suits someone who likes a long, slow project.

Sport, music and the things he watches

This is where knowing him pays off. PIXELPETE makes card quiz games on single subjects: the cricket one has 200 questions, and there's a Formula 1 version called Track Stats. Each was under £15 in October 2026, plus £1.70 delivery. For a record collector, Gift Republic's vinyl care kit has a record brush, a stylus brush, a cloth and cleaning spray. For a golfer there's a towel embroidered with his initials, for a cyclist a frame bag with a waterproof lining and his name printed on it, and for a Formula 1 fan who'd rather sit down with something, a 1,000-piece jigsaw of 32 cars through the years.

Sport and hobby gifts for dad

If his hobby is making things, our Christmas gifts for nerdy adults guide covers model-making and miniature painting, and the LEGO sets for adults guide starts with the kind of build he'd enjoy.

Something to do, not something to keep

For a dad who has everything, an experience means there's nothing left to find room for. There's research behind it, too. Across four studies, Cindy Chan and Cassie Mogilner found that experiential gifts did more for the relationship between giver and receiver than material ones, because they're more emotionally evocative when they're used.

The tour for two from QWERTY Beer Box on Not On The High StreetNot On The High StreetNot On The High Street is a marketplace of independent UK makers rather than a single retailer, so the range runs from personalised jewellery and homeware to food, experience days Buying guide · View store → is a voucher for a tour and tutored tasting at a UK brewery, vineyard, gin or whisky distillery. Prices depend on which kind you choose: the gin distillery tour was £57.99 in October 2026 and the brewery tour £66.99. It's for over-18s, and the voucher lasts 12 months. If he'd rather stay in, the Coffee Factory's three-month coffee club sends three letterbox deliveries of coffee roasted in Devon, beans or ground, and A Box of Stories sends four novels in the genre you pick, which makes it a surprise you've still steered.

Gifts for men who have everything

The dad who has everything usually means two things: he buys what he wants as soon as he wants it, and he doesn't want more clutter. So I'd stop trying to find the thing he hasn't got.

There are three ways round it. The first is to ask him for one specific thing, and then actually buy it; going by the Gino and Flynn research above, he'll like it more than you'd expect. The second is to replace something he wears out, which is also my rule for stocking fillers for adults. Good wool socks are dull, but they get worn: the knee-length Nordic socks from AURA QUE are knitted from leftover wool and sold as fair trade, and the same seller makes hand-felted wool slipper boots with suede soles. The embroidered Christmas socks from StephieAnn are mostly bamboo and cotton rather than wool, whatever the name says.

The third is to give him something nobody else could. The Dear Dad journal from From You To Me is a hardback book of prompts for him to write his life story in, which makes it as much a present for you as for him. If there's a young child in the family, The Big Match from FromLucy&Co is a personalised picture book in which dad and child play a night-time football match, made to read together.

Personalised gifts take longer

A name, a date or a drawing of his car makes a present harder to forget, and it also makes it slower and harder to undo. Not On The High Street says personalised, bespoke and made-to-order products may take up to 30 days to make, and its Christmas page advises ordering custom pieces well in advance. Some sellers are quicker, but I wouldn't leave a personalised order until December.

They're also usually yours for keeps. The 14-day right to cancel an online order doesn't apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised, under regulation 28 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, so check the spelling of his name before you pay. Citizens Advice explains the rules if you're not sure where you stand.

It's worth reading what the price covers, too. The watercolour car portrait from AikaPortraits was £18.95 in October 2026 for the digital file, with an A4 print £11.80 more. Molly Moo's line drawing of his house works the same way: the base price is a PDF, and the print costs extra. The Word Shack's print sets out his football club's facts from the year he was born, with his name on it.

LetterfestLetterfestLetterfest makes personalised gifts that lean towards illustration, books and engraved pots. Most of the range is commissioned from artists, so the choice you make matters more thaBuying guide · View store →'s Daddy and Me portrait is a hand-drawn pencil-style picture of him with the children, drawn from your photos, £50 in October 2026. Letterfest emails a proof within 24 hours and prints nothing until you approve it, so the time it takes partly depends on you.

Personalised gifts for dad

Our personalised Christmas gifts collection has more, for the rest of the family as well as him, and if you're buying for her too, our guide to Christmas gifts for mum starts from the same place.

Getting it there before Christmas

I haven't put a last order date on any gift here, because each shop sets its own, and on Not On The High Street each seller sends its own parcels. I'd look at the shop's Christmas delivery page before ordering, and only count on a date the shop itself has published.

Some have published dates. Chocolate Trading Company's delivery page gave its last order dates for Christmas 2026 as Friday 18 December for its cheapest services, Monday 21 December for tracked delivery and Wednesday 23 December for next-day delivery to the mainland, each by 4pm (checked 18 October 2026). Royal Mail's last posting dates for 2026 were Friday 18 December for 2nd Class, Monday 21 December for 1st Class and Tracked 24, and Wednesday 23 December for Special Delivery Guaranteed, when I checked the same day. Those are posting dates for the shop, not order dates for you, since a seller needs time to pack and dispatch.

Not On The High Street hadn't published dates for 2026 when I checked, and its Christmas page says to order at least two weeks before Christmas, and earlier for anything personalised. Neither had TruffleHunter, Bunches, Flower Station, Royal Doulton or Letterfest. I'd also look at what delivery adds: on Not On The High Street, each seller charges its own, so three gifts from three sellers can mean three charges.

If you're buying for a family Secret Santa rather than for him alone, our Secret Santa gifts guide works out what delivery adds to a small gift.

Where I'd start

If he's told you something he wants, buy that, even if it feels unimaginative. If he hasn't, I'd pick one thing from whatever he already does on a weekend, something he'll eat, drink, plant or do, and leave the novelty mugs on the shelf. It's not much of a surprise, but it's the present he's most likely to use, and that's the one he'll remember you bought.
