What is 3daysofdesign?
A yearly design festival in Copenhagen where furniture, lighting and interiors brands open their showrooms, studios and temporary exhibitions across the city's design districts. It returns 9–11 June 2027, and the public programme is free: the festival's app gives you a personal digital ticket to the exhibitions and events (3daysofdesign). It works on the same principle as Clerkenwell Design Week in London, real showrooms rather than one exhibition hall, spread across a whole city.
Why is it such a big deal?
It started in 2013 as a small event set up by four Danish brands, and by the festival's own count more than 460 brands exhibited in 2025, with over 60,000 visitors choosing from more than 600 events. In the UK, "3daysofdesign" is searched about 720 times a month, well ahead of "copenhagen design week" at 170 (Google Keyword Planner, October 2026).
Why should you care about the dates?
Because those dates are Wednesday to Friday. This isn't a Saturday thing, so it works best as a midweek city break, with time off work or a late flight on Friday. The public programme costs nothing, so the room, meals and transport are the whole bill.
The short answer: treat it as a neighbourhood walk, not a trade-show sweep: one dense cluster from the official map, a hotel booked for 9–11 June, and any talks that need an RSVP in the diary first.
Why I rate it
Because design leaves the fairground and takes over the city. You bounce between polished showrooms, working studios, courtyards and temporary installations, then stop for lunch or sit by the harbour, and it never feels like you're switching between "event" and "sightseeing". It works for curious normal people as much as the lot who can identify a chair from twenty metres away.

Can normal people actually go to 3daysofdesign?
Yes. The organiser describes a free public programme. Some individual talks, launches or dinners might have limited space or need you to register. You don't need to pretend to be an architect to enjoy the showrooms, materials, furniture and installations. You do need to remember that some of these places are working studios or shops, so don't treat them like a museum.
The 2027 directory is the tool for picking one dense cluster. It's far more fun as a neighbourhood walk than a race across Copenhagen trying to tick off brands you recognise.
Which area should I pick?
One main cluster from the official map, plus one next door at most. For a first visit, central Copenhagen and Frederiksstaden are easiest, with lots of permanent design addresses. Refshaleøen or some of the newer districts can feel more experimental, but you'll have to think harder about getting there and back. My tip: pick a theme rather than a list of brands. Lighting, circular materials, furniture for small spaces, hotel and restaurant interiors. Having a question in your head makes the displays and conversations way more interesting.
Turning it into a proper trip
Arrive on Wednesday if you care about the opening day. Do the densest route on Thursday, and keep Friday morning for anything you missed before a late flight home or a weekend add-on. Only add Louisiana Museum if you've got a separate half-day for it. It's not something you pop into between showrooms.
June days in Copenhagen are long, so leave one evening with nothing planned. That leaves room for a harbour swim, a meal outside or simply sitting. And watch the spending: the event might be free, but a free event can still get expensive fast if you treat every meal and taxi as a rounding error.
