I love a design event I'm not qualified to be at. Walking into a showroom, nodding at a lamp, pretending I know what "tactile materiality" means. The nice thing about 3daysofdesign is that you don't have to pretend. It's properly open to the public, it's free, and it happens all over Copenhagen rather than in some trade hall on the edge of town.
It's back from 9–11 June 2027. I'd treat it as a neighbourhood walk, not a trade-show sweep. One thing to clock straight away: those dates are Wednesday to Friday. This isn't a Saturday thing, so it works best as a midweek city break.
Why I rate it
Because design leaves the fairground and takes over the city. You bounce between polished showrooms, working studios, courtyards and temporary installations, then stop for lunch or sit by the harbour, and it never feels like you're switching between "event" and "sightseeing". It works for curious normal people as much as the lot who can identify a chair from twenty metres away.
Can normal people actually go to 3daysofdesign?
Yes. The organiser describes a free public programme. Some individual talks, launches or dinners might have limited space or need you to register. You don't need to pretend to be an architect to enjoy the showrooms, materials, furniture and installations. You do need to remember that some of these places are working studios or shops, so don't treat them like a museum.
Use the 2027 directory to pick one dense cluster. It's far more fun as a neighbourhood walk than a race across Copenhagen trying to tick off brands you recognise.
Which area should I pick?
One main cluster from the official map, plus one next door at most. For a first visit, central Copenhagen and Frederiksstaden are easiest, with lots of permanent design addresses. Refshaleøen or some of the newer districts can feel more experimental, but you'll have to think harder about getting there and back. Carlsberg City pairs some clever reused architecture with Hotel Ottilia, which is one of the stays in this guide.
My tip: pick a theme rather than a list of brands. Lighting, circular materials, furniture for small spaces, hotel and restaurant interiors. Having a question in your head makes the displays and conversations way more interesting.
Turning it into a proper trip
Arrive on Wednesday if you care about the opening day. Do the densest route on Thursday, and keep Friday morning for anything you missed before a late flight home or a weekend add-on. Only add Louisiana Museum if you've got a separate half-day for it. It's not something you pop into between showrooms.
June days in Copenhagen are long, so leave one evening with nothing planned. Go for a harbour swim, eat outside, or just sit. And watch the spending: the event might be free, but a free event can still get expensive fast if you treat every meal and taxi as a rounding error.

What should I book first?
A hotel for 9–11 June. Then plan your route once the district map and registrations come out. The public programme is free, but popular talks and launches can need an RSVP, so put those fixed bits in the diary first and let the showrooms fill the gaps between them.
