A website builder starts to look rather like a landlord once your site is live. I would settle the exit question early: FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → doesn't export your site at all, while Webflow's code export leaves out the blog, the shop, the forms and every language but the first. You're likely to stay with either one, and many pages ranking for this comparison in October 2026 still quote prices from before Webflow rebuilt its plans in May.

What are Framer and Webflow?

Both are website builders for custom designs without code. You lay out pages on screen, and the same service then hosts your site, runs a CMS (a database for repeating content such as blog posts) and handles SEO settings. Where they part company is the building process: FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → feels like a design tool, a freeform canvas close to Figma, while Webflow mirrors front-end code, with boxes, CSS classes and flexbox. That brings more control and more to learn (Zapier, September 2025).

Even Webflow's own comparison page concedes that designers used to Figma take longer to learn it. The magier channel puts the difference neatly: Webflow is structured Lego, Framer a blank canvas. Its explainer shows who each approach suits.

Why is everyone comparing them now?

Two things changed this year. Webflow rebuilt its plans in 2026, and FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → is openly trying to win its customers. On 13 May, Webflow merged its CMS and Business plans into a single Premium plan; its entry paid plan, Basic, has no CMS at all (Webflow, May 2026). Sites in Freelancer and Agency Workspaces move to the new prices at renewal from 16 November 2026. Framer is courting Webflow agencies with a Switch programme that covers an approved client site's first year on an eligible plan (Framer).

What does it cost, and what's the catch?

The starting price depends on whether you need a blog. Both charge per site in US dollars, plus tax (Framer pricing; Webflow pricing). On yearly billing in October 2026, your own domain starts with FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → Basic at $10 a month ($120 a year), against Webflow Basic at $15 a month ($180). Framer Basic includes a small CMS; Webflow's CMS plans start with Premium at $25 a month billed yearly ($300 a year), or $39 billed monthly.

The catch: that starting price is rarely the whole bill. Editors, translations, bandwidth and AI credits cost extra on both, and leaving means a rebuild. Both score 1.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot UK (Framer, 146 reviews; Webflow, 240 reviews, October 2026), with most complaints about billing surprises and support.

The short answer: I'd lean towards FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → for a designer, freelancer or startup wanting a portfolio, marketing site or landing pages live quickly with a modest blog, from $120 a year billed yearly (October 2026). For an online shop, a big content site, several languages or the option to take the code elsewhere, I'd choose Webflow, with a CMS plan from $300 a year. If you're new to building sites and want a simpler editor, Squarespace or Wix may suit you better. More options are on our website builders page.

When is Framer the better pick?

For a visual thinker trying to get a designed site live quickly, FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → has the stronger case. Zapier's reviewer gave it five stars for ease of learning against Webflow's three, and counted about 1,100 free templates against roughly 90 on Webflow (Zapier, September 2025). Framer's AI agents design sections, rewrite copy and set up CMS collections, with credits metered at 1,000 a month on Basic and 3,000 on Pro (Framer pricing, October 2026).

There is more room to grow on Pro: at $30 a month billed yearly, it adds redirects, staging and branching with previews (Framer pricing). Webflow keeps page branching for its $2,500-a-month Team plan. Some older comparisons miss two details. Webflow's comparison page says Framer lacks native A/B testing (Webflow), but Framer now sells a Convert add-on for A/B tests and funnels at $50 per 500,000 events (Framer pricing). Framer's security page also contradicts claims that it has no SOC 2 report: it says Framer has completed a SOC 2 Type 2 audit and holds ISO 27001.

For students, Basic is free for a year (worth $120); eligible startups get a year of Pro (worth $360).

Flux Academy, which sells courses for both, reckons 70 to 80% of sites could be built on either. Its comparison comes down to whether you think like a developer or a visual designer.

Who it suits: designers, freelancers and startups who want a portfolio, marketing site or landing pages live quickly, with a blog of up to 2,500 posts on Pro before add-ons.

Less suited to: online shops, large content sites, multilingual sites on a budget, and anyone who may need to take the code elsewhere.

The catch: there's no shop, and leaving means a rebuild. Basic has no redirects (Framer pricing), a snag if you're moving an existing site with old addresses. Trustpilot reviewers also complain of AI credits used up by simple edits.

Price: in October 2026, Basic is $10 a month and Pro $30 a month, billed yearly. The free plan uses a Framer subdomain with a "Made in Framer" badge (Framer pricing).

When is Webflow the better pick?

Webflow comes into its own once a site has to grow beyond a set of pages: a big CMS, a shop, cheaper translation and a way out. Premium holds 20,000 CMS items in 40 collections for $25 a month billed yearly (Webflow pricing, October 2026), eight times FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → Pro's 2,500. Mercury (March 2026) rates Webflow's CMS the stronger base for search-led content, while Framer is quicker to launch.

If the site needs a shop, Webflow is the only one of the two with one built in. Ecommerce starts at $29 a month billed yearly for 500 products, with a 2% transaction fee on that Standard plan on top of Stripe or PayPal fees; it works out sales tax and VAT at checkout (Webflow pricing, October 2026). TechRadar (June 2025) found subscriptions and complex stock need workarounds. Redirects, canonical tags, schema and robots.txt controls come with every paid plan from Basic up.

The price for that control is time. TechRadar suggests several weeks of learning, and Flowout, a Webflow agency, says most designers become productive within two to four weeks (Flowout, September 2026). A print designer asked on r/web_design in 2025 whether Webflow was really that hard. Replies described a visual builder for CSS, tough without CSS knowledge; one person said it clicked after learning HTML and flexbox first.

Who it suits: teams and agencies building larger marketing or content sites, custom-designed shops, multilingual sites, and anyone who wants the option to export the front end.

Less suited to: first-timers who want to publish this week, and anyone who'd rather not juggle site, Workspace and seat bills.

The catch: if you go over your bandwidth two months running, Webflow automatically upgrades your plan (Webflow pricing). Trustpilot reviewers also report auto-renewals and bot-only support.

Price: in October 2026, Basic is $15 a month and Premium $25 a month billed yearly, or $25 and $39 billed monthly. Free Starter uses a webflow.io subdomain with a badge you can't remove (Webflow pricing).

What does each cost for a real site?

For an agency, Webflow adds another layer: a Workspace plan from $16 to $49 a month billed yearly on top of each client's site plan (Webflow pricing, October 2026). Jeremy Mura's walkthrough notes that the free Workspace gives only two staging sites, so freelancers end up paying $19 a month extra; he uses Framer himself.

Four languages can shift the balance again. In a July 2025 r/framer thread, a marketing manager needing a CMS and four languages found Framer priced out against Webflow, though one commenter costed comparable setups at $235 and $220 a month. Both companies have changed prices since, but the exchange shows why I would count the add-ons as carefully as the plan.

What happens if you want to leave?

A future move is awkward with either builder, especially FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store →. Its help centre says published sites rely on Framer's services and can't be saved as standalone HTML (Framer).

Webflow lets you export HTML, CSS, JavaScript and images, though you need a paid Workspace plan, rather than just a site plan (Webflow help). In October 2026 that means Core at $19 a month billed yearly or above. Your export still leaves out CMS content, ecommerce, form processing, site search, password protection and every language except the primary one; CMS and product collections download separately as spreadsheets (CSV files).

So I'd budget for a rebuild whichever way you move. Framer's own guide tells Webflow switchers to treat it as a website migration rather than a code transfer (Framer), and TechRadar notes Webflow has no automated migration tools (TechRadar, June 2025).

That's partly why many developers lean towards Webflow. When someone asked on r/webflow in 2024 why people choose it, the top answers called it the least restrictive proprietary builder and the closest to real HTML and CSS; one reply argued an agency could sell the same big site on Wix Studio.

Already on Webflow? What the 2026 price change means

The next renewal deserves a closer look if you're already on Webflow. Basic is now $15 a month billed yearly and $25 monthly, with its page limit doubled from 150 to 300, and no CMS; former Business customers on Premium get 50 GB of bandwidth instead of 100 GB unless they buy add-ons (Webflow, May 2026). Sites in Freelancer or Agency Workspaces, or on legacy pricing, move at renewal on or after 16 November 2026. Webflow says switching to yearly billing before then keeps the current plan for another year.

AI has its own meter: every Workspace gets monthly credits (200 on the free Starter Workspace), enforced since 29 June 2026 (Webflow pricing), much as FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → meters its agents.

Those changes leave some comparison pages with old figures. Zapier's still lists Webflow at $18, $29 and $49 and Framer at $10, $20 and $40, while both Flowout and Velox Themes put Framer Pro's CMS at 1,000 items, against the 2,500 Framer states.

What UK buyers should know

Neither shows prices in pounds. With UK standard VAT at 20% (GOV.UK), our arithmetic puts FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → Basic yearly at about $144 rather than $120, and Webflow Premium at about $360 rather than $300 for a consumer.

The small print differs as well. Framer's pricing FAQ gives a 14-day refund right to customers in the EU or Turkey and doesn't name the UK (Framer pricing); Webflow has no time-limited trial, but its free Starter plan never expires.

Data and forms deserve a look before you commit. Framer B.V. is a Dutch company under Dutch law (Framer terms) that says it complies with the EU GDPR; it hosts on AWS in the US, with extra hosting in Europe and Asia-Pacific (Framer security). Webflow lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 among its certifications (Webflow security). A self-hosted Webflow export drops forms and reCAPTCHA, which Webflow puts down to GDPR, so it needs a separate form tool (Webflow help).

If you're building a UK shop, Webflow Ecommerce works out VAT at checkout (Webflow pricing); Framer has no checkout.

Webflow alternatives and Framer alternatives

A small business site may not need either of these builders. Startups.co.uk's roundup (August 2026) leaves both out of its top five, puts Wix first for small businesses with paid plans from £9 to £119 a month, and says Squarespace was easier to use than the other builders it tested, from £12 a month. Squarespace has a 14-day free trial and no free plan.

For agencies, Wix Studio is Wix's own version, and TechRadar rates Webflow more complex than either Wix Studio or Squarespace (TechRadar, June 2025). For big content sites, WordPress.com has plans from $4 to $45 a month billed yearly, unlimited users and a marketplace of more than 60,000 plugins (WordPress.com pricing, October 2026). Upkeep is the trade-off: Zapier's reviewer recalls years of plugin conflicts and server errors on WordPress, the hassle FramerFramerThis is Framer, a website builder from Amsterdam that pairs a visual design canvas with an AI design agent, a built-in CMS and hosting. It suits designers, freelancers, startups anBuying guide · View store → and Webflow set out to remove (Zapier).
