I would choose it for a group that wants to move between tempos without spending the weekend at a vast mainstream event. PullUp Recordings created the festival, and the organiser describes its growth from a 300-person birthday party to an 8,000-capacity event. The 2027 artist lineup has not been announced; the names on older posters describe past years, not a promise of who will play next June.

That range is what makes GemFest a more useful recommendation than the vague phrase “something for everyone”. Which ticket and arrival day?
The 2027 ticket page points to the festival’s official Skiddle listing. The event terms distinguish Thursday-entry and Friday-entry weekend camping tickets. Check which day your ticket admits you before arranging a lift or a day off work. Add-ons such as parking or campervan access need their own valid passes and must accompany an entry ticket. Payment-plan balances must be paid by the advertised deadline to keep the ticket valid.
The organiser’s main site gives 17–20 June as the festival’s public dates. Its terms also show Monday 21 June as an event-end date while ticket definitions name Sunday 20 June. That appears to cover the departure period; confirm your campsite checkout time directly from current joining instructions rather than assuming a Sunday night train will be easy.
Chippenham is the rail route, but book the final leg
The official travel advice points rail travellers to Chippenham station and an event shuttle. Buy the shuttle ticket ahead of time to secure a seat. The shuttle rules allow one bag or suitcase plus up to three carryable camping items; festival trolleys and oversized luggage are not accepted. Pack with that limit in mind before choosing the train over a car.
Driving means checking the parking pass and the designated long-stay car park. Taxis and lifts must use the official pick-up and drop-off zone. Walking into or out of the estate is prohibited because of the surrounding fast roads, so “we’ll just walk from the nearest village” is not a workable backup plan.
If your group needs accessibility arrangements, the 2027 terms set 17 May 2027 as the deadline for requests including personal-assistant tickets and accessible camping. Later requests may be considered, but facilities cannot be guaranteed. Contact the access team before buying any upgrade that depends on a particular camping area.
Would I book now?
Yes, if your group wants a small, independent, genuinely mixed electronic weekend and is happy to book on the festival’s genre promise. I would wait if one headliner decides the trip: the 2027 lineup is still pending. Either way, settle the arrival day, shuttle or parking pass, and camping kit together when you check the official tickets. This is a field weekend, and the transport detail will affect it as much as the eventual running order.
