GemFest puts UKG, house, jungle and drum and bass on the same camping bill. That breadth is its best argument if your group wants to dance together without agreeing on one tempo first. What is GemFest?
GemFest is an independent four-day camping festival of underground dance music: UK garage (UKG), 140 and dubstep, house, disco, techno, jungle and drum and bass, according to its own site. It's held in the grounds of Charlton Park Estate, just outside Malmesbury, and the festival says it is still run by the group of friends who started it.
Why is it a big deal?
Because of how quickly it has grown. PullUp Recordings, the Welsh dance label behind it, says GemFest began as a 21st birthday party for 300 friends and is now an 8,000-capacity festival. In the UK, "GemFest" is searched about 5,400 times a month (Google Keyword Planner, October 2026).
Why should you care before booking?
Because the 2027 lineup is still to come, and the practical side shapes the weekend as much as the music: which day your ticket lets you in, how you get from the station to the site, and the deadline for access requests if anyone in the group needs support.
The short answer: I'd choose GemFest for a group that wants to wander between UKG, house, jungle and D&B without getting swallowed by a vast mainstream event. Its site listed weekend tickets from £75 when I checked in October 2026. If one particular DJ will decide the trip for you, the lineup is worth waiting for.

That range is what makes GemFest a more useful recommendation than the vague phrase “something for everyone”. Which ticket and arrival day?
The 2027 ticket page points to the festival’s official Skiddle listing. The event terms distinguish Thursday-entry and Friday-entry weekend camping tickets. The day your ticket admits you is worth confirming before arranging a lift or a day off work. Parking and campervan access are add-ons that need their own valid passes and must accompany an entry ticket. Payment-plan balances must be paid by the advertised deadline to keep the ticket valid.
The organiser’s main site gives 17–20 June as the festival’s public dates. Its terms also show Monday 21 June as an event-end date while ticket definitions name Sunday 20 June. That appears to cover the departure period: the festival's FAQ says the site closes at 12pm on Monday and everyone must have left by then. Current joining instructions are still the place to confirm your campsite checkout time, rather than assuming a Sunday night train will be easy.
Chippenham is the rail route, but book the final leg
The official travel advice points rail travellers to Chippenham station and an event shuttle. A shuttle ticket bought ahead of time secures a seat. The shuttle rules allow one bag or suitcase plus up to three carryable camping items; festival trolleys and oversized luggage are not accepted. That limit is worth packing to before choosing the train over a car.
Driving means checking the parking pass and the designated long-stay car park. Taxis and lifts must use the official pick-up and drop-off zone. Walking into or out of the estate is prohibited because of the surrounding fast roads, so “we’ll just walk from the nearest village” is not a workable backup plan.
If your group needs accessibility arrangements, the 2027 terms set 17 May 2027 as the deadline for requests including personal-assistant tickets and accessible camping. Later requests may be considered, but facilities cannot be guaranteed. It's worth contacting the access team before buying any upgrade that depends on a particular camping area.
Would I book now?
Yes, if your group wants a small, independent, genuinely mixed electronic weekend and is happy to book on the festival’s genre promise. I would wait if one headliner decides the trip: the 2027 lineup is still pending. Either way, the arrival day, shuttle or parking pass, and camping kit are best settled together when you look at the official tickets, and the camping shops we cover are on our camping and hiking page.
