Grand Theft Auto VI is due on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has shown three substantial pieces of official video, introduced Jason and Lucia and opened pre-orders. It still hasn't announced a PC date or a GTA VI multiplayer launch. If I owned a current console, I'd watch the 27-minute Extended Look before spending anything; if I played only on PC, I'd keep my money until Rockstar actually names that version. Rockstar's game page has the current platform and date listing.
What interests me most isn't the size of a fan-made map or a frame-rate prediction. It's the setup: two people whose easy score goes wrong, trying to survive a criminal conspiracy across Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida. A partnership that has to hold together through robberies, arguments and bad choices is a better reason to follow this game than a claim that every building will be enterable. Rockstar has put enough of the world on screen to make that prospect tangible; the rest is where the internet has been improvising. Rockstar introduces Jason, Lucia and Leonida.
The short version:
- Release: Thursday 19 November 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
- PC: No date yet. Our GTA 6 PC guide follows that separately.
- Videos: Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and An Extended Look are the three official releases.
- Buying: Console pre-orders are open; compare the edition and delivery format first.
- Online: Rockstar has described a single-player launch, with no VI multiplayer date published.
Watch the reveals in order
Trailer 1, 4 December 2023. This is the introduction to modern Vice City: beaches, nightlife, alligators, police footage and a flood of in-world phone video. Its social-media framing does more than decorate the city. It shows the kind of place Jason and Lucia will be watched, filmed and talked about in. The clip ends with the pair acting together, but it isn't a tour of game systems. Watch it on Rockstar's site.
Trailer 2, 6 May 2025. Jason and Lucia move from poster figures to people with a relationship and a job to get through. I like it because it makes the crime story feel as important as the postcard shots of Leonida. Rockstar says the trailer was captured in-game on PS5 and combines gameplay with cutscenes. That doesn't make every moment a promise about what the player can control. Rockstar's Trailer 2 page and the official video description explain the capture.
An Extended Look, 27 August 2026. At 26 minutes and 48 seconds, this is where I'd start if I wanted to judge the game rather than the marketing rhythm. Rockstar says the footage was captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. Watch the movement between Jason and Lucia, the range of places and the shape of the crime and combat sequences, then decide which details actually make you want to play. The official Extended Look page also provides a direct viewing route if the embed doesn't play for you.
You'll see people call that last video “Trailer 3”. Rockstar doesn't. Its official media library lists the two numbered trailers and the Extended Look separately. That distinction matters when an account claims a new trailer has dropped and sends you somewhere other than Rockstar's own channel.
Jason, Lucia and a much bigger cast
Rockstar's premise is unusually direct: Jason and Lucia pull a job that goes wrong, then have to rely on each other while a conspiracy reaches across Leonida. The first question I want the game to answer is whether their partnership changes how I play, or only how the cutscenes look. Either could work, but they're different promises. Rockstar's story description is the safe starting point; purported plot summaries from leaked files are not a substitute for the finished story.
The official character clips also introduce Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, the Real Dimez, Raul Bautista and Brian Heder. That's a cast with obvious routes into friends, music, nightlife and criminal work, though how much time each person gets in the game remains to be seen. I'd rather meet them through those short clips than through a wiki that has already decided everyone's fate.
Where is GTA 6 set, and how much of the map do we know?
Vice City is the centre, not the whole state. Rockstar's images and location material name the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga alongside the city. The official screenshot library is more useful than a guessed outline if you want to see what Rockstar has chosen to show: it labels places and gives you actual streets, coast, wetlands and countryside to inspect.
The change of setting is what makes this return to Vice City interesting to me. The older game's Miami parody was tightly tied to its 1980s soundtrack and look. This one has a modern city, an entire state around it and an obsession with people recording one another. A beach clip tells me something about atmosphere; it doesn't tell me the distance to Mount Kalaga or how many interiors I can enter.
Fan mapping is a hobby in its own right, and some of the work is impressively painstaking. But no stitched fan map is Rockstar's final playable map. Reported files from September 2026 appear to include early GTA VI map assets alongside abandoned GTA V work; even a genuine old asset cannot tell you that a road, island or district survived into the shipping game. PC Gamer's report on the archive makes that provenance worth keeping in mind.
Which features have we actually seen?
The official footage gives us a two-lead crime story, a broad mix of urban and rural places, driving, confrontations and a city saturated with phone video. It is a substantial look at the game, but I wouldn't turn a moment in a showcase into a guaranteed system with a name, a progression tree and a feature list. PC Gamer's scene-by-scene reading of the Extended Look is useful for spotting possible mechanics; Rockstar's video is the thing to compare those readings against.
On PlayStation, the platform holder lists PS5 Pro enhancement, 3D audio, fast loading and DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. It does not specify a universal 60fps mode on that page. An enhancement badge tells you there is a Pro-specific benefit, not precisely what resolution or frame rate every scene will run at. Sony also says the game will not run on PS4. PlayStation's UK GTA VI page has the current feature list.
The feature questions I'd keep open are the ones that change how a game feels after the first hour: how much freedom Jason and Lucia have in approaching a job, whether a police pursuit reacts to the way a crime actually unfolded, whether the locations remain interesting between missions, and whether all that on-screen activity is more than background noise. I'm excited by the possibilities; I wouldn't buy a console for any particular unannounced mechanic.
The leak stories are almost a second game
There is a real history here. Take-Two says an unauthorised party accessed Rockstar's systems in September 2022 and downloaded early development footage. That confirms an intrusion, but old development video cannot certify a launch feature four years later. Take-Two's filing records the incident.
The newer cycle is messier. In August 2026, an account called Cyberleek circulated purported gameplay clips and map images; specialist reporters examined them while the account made claims of its own. In September, a separate large archive brought early map material and cancelled GTA V work back into the discussion. These are different batches with different histories. A screenshot that looks convincing is not evidence that its contents are in the final game. PC Gamer on the August clips and the September archive are better starting points than reposted files.
Then come the conspiracy theories: a moon phase supposedly giving away a trailer date, a number hidden in an image, or the claim that the leaks were secretly part of Rockstar's promotion. They're fun as fan folklore. They haven't predicted Rockstar's video labels or launch plans reliably, and they shouldn't become news just because a post has a dramatic countdown. Rockstar's media page tells you what it has actually released. Its story also contains an in-game criminal conspiracy; that's the premise for Jason and Lucia, not evidence for a real-world marketing plot.
One practical rule: don't download a “GTA 6 PC build”, demo, trailer player or codec offered through a leak thread. There is no announced PC release on Rockstar's platform list, and Malwarebytes has documented fake GTA VI leak-related pages. The three official videos above give you more to examine without handing a stranger access to your machine.
What I'm hoping the finished game gets right
Two leads who matter in play. I want switching perspective to change what I know or how a plan works, rather than simply giving me another character portrait. The official story makes their dependence on each other central; the game should let that relationship carry some weight between missions.
A city with useful friction. A believable police response, busy interiors and people reacting to what I do would be more valuable to me than a map-size record. Leonida's streets, wetlands and resorts should lead to different situations, not just different backdrops. That's a wish, not a confirmed list of systems.
Reasons to stay after the story. GTA V became a long-lived platform, but I still want the single-player world to feel complete and rewarding on its own. Rockstar is selling a single-player experience for November. It has not announced a GTA VI Online date or crossplay plan, so I wouldn't buy an edition on a promise of either. Rockstar's pre-order announcement calls the game a single-player experience.
Music that belongs to the places. Rockstar has announced a 34-track Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album for 19 November and released its first six singles. That gives us something real to listen to before launch. It doesn't yet reveal every in-game radio station or prove that a trailer song will play in a car. Rockstar's album announcement is the current track source.
Should you pre-order in the UK?
If you already own a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and know you'll play at launch, the Standard Edition is where I'd start. Sony's UK page currently lists it at £69.99 and the digital Ultimate Edition at £89.99. The extra £20 buys the Ultimate upgrade's collection of vehicles, weapons, clothing and other in-game benefits. I wouldn't pay it unless those extras, rather than simply owning GTA VI, are the point for you. Compare the exact contents at Rockstar and the current UK PlayStation listing.
There are two easily missed details. Rockstar says the physical box contains a download code, so don't assume you're buying a playable disc or a way around a large download. Digital pre-orders can pre-load from 12 November. Its Vintage Vice City Pack applies to qualifying pre-orders and purchases before 20 November; the free month of GTA+ is for eligible digital pre-orders and can continue as a paid subscription if you leave it running. Check the terms shown on your platform before you redeem it. Rockstar's pre-order terms and PlayStation's UK offer details set out the difference.
I'd check ShopTo's PS5 pre-order or its Xbox Series X pre-order against the official PlayStation listing or Xbox's GTA VI page before paying. ShopTo's UK listings say the box contains a download code, not a disc; if the disc is why you want a box, I'd skip that option. Check the exact platform, total checkout price and pre-order terms on the day.
If you're waiting for PC, I'd keep Green Man GamingGreen Man GamingA UK-based authorised retailer selling publisher-supplied PC and Xbox keys across several activation platforms.Buying guide · View store →,
FanaticalFanaticalA Staffordshire-based authorised digital retailer known for publisher-supplied game keys, bundles and build-your-own collections.Buying guide · View store → and
GamesplanetGamesplanetAn authorised PC game retailer with a dedicated UK storefront and keys supplied under publisher agreements.Buying guide · View store → in mind for a later price comparison. I'd check the launcher, region and refund terms on the exact listing before buying a key. For now, I'd keep my money: Rockstar hasn't announced a PC edition. Our GTA VI PC release-date guide follows that separately.
