Coffee is great. But if you’re on cup number three, still can’t concentrate and now feel a bit wired, putting the kettle on again starts to look like a questionable plan.

You wanted to get through the afternoon. Finish the thing you started. Have a bit of energy left afterwards. Somehow, the answer has become more coffee.

I’ve tried coffee, energy drinks and supplements. And I can see how you end up going round in circles: a can instead of a mug, another ingredient to look up, another bottle to remember to take. If caffeine is what’s making you jittery, an energy drink can just deliver more of it. A supplement brings its own homework about ingredients and doses. The promise is tempting: focus, energy and calm, in something you can stir into a mug. Keep the drink, improve how you feel. I get why that would catch your attention when your current routine isn’t doing much for you.

So, what’s actually in the pink pouch?

Coffee, meet mushrooms

Rainbow Dust combines lion’s mane, cordyceps and chaga mushrooms with ashwagandha, maca, vitamin B5 and caffeine. The Coffee version includes instant coffee. There’s also Chocolate, Vanilla Cinnamon and other flavours if you fancy a different sort of drink.

Spacegoods says the blend supports focus, energy and calm, without the jitters and crash it associates with ordinary coffee. That’s the pitch. Whether it does that for you needs more thought than the packaging gives it.

There’s nothing particularly complicated about making it. Scoop, water or milk, stir or froth. You can have it hot or cold, and a full pouch contains 30 servings. Spacegoods’ own preparation guide uses hot water, milk and a frother.

The mushrooms are the unusual bit. The rest can fit into the same five minutes you already spend making a drink.

Why I’d give the idea a look

For a start, it’s one thing to make. If you’re curious about several of these ingredients, having them together in a scoop is more convenient than measuring out separate powders. That doesn’t settle whether the blend works, but it does make it easier to imagine using.

The choice of flavours helps, too. You might want to stick with coffee. You might prefer the idea of a chocolate drink with milk. Either way, you need to enjoy the cup enough to make another one tomorrow. Nobody needs a £49 pouch they spend a month avoiding.

And you can start with seven sachets. That’s the part I particularly like: try the drink before deciding it deserves a subscription. A small pack gives you a chance to work out whether you like the flavour and making it fits your day.

The sample won’t settle the science. It will help settle whether you want a bigger bag in the cupboard.

Will it actually help you focus?

This is where I’d ease off the enthusiasm a little. The ingredients are interesting, but a list of mushrooms isn’t enough to promise a more productive afternoon.

A small 2023 lion’s mane trial studied 41 healthy adults over 28 days. It found improvement on one cognitive task after a single dose, with mixed results across the other measures. It tested a particular lion’s mane preparation, not Rainbow Dust. We can’t turn that into a promise about what this drink will do.

There’s also still caffeine in the cup: the Coffee flavour lists 120mg per serving. If you’re looking at Spacegoods because caffeine makes you feel rough, that number matters. The FDA lists jitters, anxiety and sleep disruption among the possible effects of too much caffeine, with sensitivity varying from person to person. Adding mushrooms doesn’t give us a reason to assume those effects disappear.

I’d be curious about Rainbow Dust as a drink I might enjoy making regularly. I’d be much more cautious about buying it with the expectation that it will sort out my concentration. That’s a lot to ask of a scoop of powder.

One ingredient to check before you order

Rainbow Dust contains ashwagandha. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health advises avoiding it during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and does not recommend it for people with thyroid or autoimmune disorders or those about to have surgery. It can interact with medicines and cause side effects, including stomach upset; rare cases of liver injury have also been reported.

If you take regular medication or have a medical condition, ask a pharmacist or clinician about the full ingredient list before trying it. Choosing a different flavour doesn’t remove that question.

Choose the caffeine level as well as the flavour

“Mushroom coffee” doesn’t tell you how much caffeine is in the mug. Even within Rainbow Dust, the labels differ.

The Coffee, Chocolate, Vanilla Cinnamon and Decaf Coffee labels are worth a look before choosing, especially if you avoid particular ingredients.

Chocolate has a third less caffeine than Coffee by these figures, but it still contains caffeine. Treat it accordingly if you’re looking for an evening hot chocolate. And if you dislike stevia, the distinction between Coffee and Chocolate is useful before you commit to a whole bag.

For someone trying to cut caffeine, the comparison below is more useful than the word “mushroom” on the front: Rheal and DIRTEA each list 50mg per serving, while vybey’s Cacao lists 40mg. Those figures compare the brands’ own serving sizes.

How I’d try it without committing to a full bag

The seven-sachet Chocolate pack makes sense. At £14, it costs £2 per serving before delivery—more per cup than the large pouch, but £35 less to find out whether you want more. Coffee samples are also available if that’s the flavour you intend to buy.

Use the sample to settle the everyday questions: do you like it in your usual milk or water, does it fit your morning, and would you look forward to another cup? Seven sachets can help with those decisions. They can’t establish a health benefit.

The £29 price comes with a recurring order

On 28 September 2026, Spacegoods’ Coffee Plus pouch was £49 as a one-off purchase. The monthly subscription option was £29 per delivery. Both contain 30 servings.

Prices exclude delivery and anything you mix the powder with. Spacegoods lists standard UK delivery at £3.99, with free delivery for subscriptions.

The subscription saves £20 against that one-off pouch price. It becomes a sensible option once you know you want a bag regularly. Before paying, check the selected flavour, delivery frequency and next charge; other delivery intervals can have different prices.

Spacegoods’ cancellation policy says you can cancel through your customer account or the links in your order confirmation. Do that before an unwanted renewal. Cancelling future deliveries and returning an order are separate steps.

There is a 60-day return-request window from receipt. Contact Spacegoods before sending anything back; the policy requires return approval and inspection. That is useful to know, but I’d still start small rather than buy a large order on the assumption that returning it will be effortless.

It’s the first one I’d compare if you want to try mushroom coffee without spending £49 on a bag. The upfront price is close to Spacegoods’ seven-sachet sampler, but buys a month’s supply at one serving a day. The trade-off is the format: a coffee blend with a narrower ingredient list, rather than Rainbow Dust’s range of flavoured drinks.

DIRTEA: a bigger pouch with 50mg caffeine per cup

This is a useful comparison if you already know you want coffee and will get through a larger supply. Rheal costs less to try, while DIRTEA gives you twice as many stated servings in one pouch. Choose the pouch-only option if you’re comparing these prices: a kit with accessories is a different purchase.

It’s still a caffeinated drink, and the upfront commitment is larger than Spacegoods’ sample pack. So, is Spacegoods worth it?

Spacegoods makes sense to try if you want to rethink your daily drink and its flavours appeal to you. The sample pack gives you a manageable way to decide whether you want it as part of your routine.
