Role: Choose this if you want to compare three Black Orchid strengths at the same bottle size. Skip a listing if it offers a different strength from the one you chose.

What reviewers found: T3 chose Black Orchid as its classic Tom Ford fragrance. Tom Ford calls Black Orchid Parfum its "most potent version", but gives no percentage on that page.

Role: Choose this if you want Absolu Aventus specifically. Skip it if you meant the original Aventus, for which this guide has no two-shop price comparison.

How to choose a perfume

Match the exact bottle

Tom Ford divides fragrances into Private Blend and Signature. Oud Wood belongs to Private Blend; Black Orchid and Ombré Leather are Signature. Creed labels the fragrances on its UK pages Eau de Parfum and calls them "Millésime quality".

Each comparison item has a barcode for one size and concentration. A 30 ml Oud Wood Eau de Parfum and a 100 ml bottle are separate items. Eau de Parfum and Parfum are separate too. On 3 November 2026, each listing represented in the price blocks was checked on the shop's own site. Each was in stock, named the same size and concentration, and was neither a tester nor a set.

Edition and presentation also matter. The catalogue treats Black Orchid Reserve Eau de Parfum 50 ml, Black Orchid Eau de Parfum 10 ml, Tobacco Vanille All Over Body Spray 150 ml and Tom Ford's "Blend Roses" gift set as distinct from the full bottles compared here. Osmoz says testers usually come in plain boxes and often without caps. A tester may be a deliberate purchase, but it has a different gift presentation from a sealed retail box.

Read concentration labels

Floris gives typical oil ranges of 5 to 15 per cent for Eau de Toilette, 15 to 20 per cent for Eau de Parfum and 20 to 30 per cent for Parfum. Marie Claire UK's Olfiction experts say no legal or industry standard fixes those labels and brands can overlap. Read the concentration on the actual item rather than assuming that every version of a name is interchangeable. Black Orchid's three strengths and Ombré Leather's two versions make this particularly relevant.

Calculate delivered cost per ml

Divide the delivered total by the bottle's millilitres. Which? advises comparing value per 100 ml, and Tom Ford's UK page prints a price per litre beside each size. Include delivery in the total: shelf price alone can misstate the comparison.

Check seller claims and packaging

Darlington Trading Standards warns about perfume with packaging made to mimic brands. Its warning signs include misspellings, poor labels, cheap cellophane, poor box construction, no serial number or batch code, and an unrealistically low price. UK cosmetic labelling law requires a batch number or identifying reference. Business Companion explains that the code may be on outer packaging if it cannot fit on the container. An absent code is a warning sign; a code alone cannot prove authenticity.

Citizens Advice recorded 3,535 counterfeit complaints to its consumer service in the year to November 2025, including 277 in its toiletries, perfumes and beauty category. Which? bought skincare and make-up from third-party marketplace sellers and found at least two thirds likely counterfeit. That cosmetics finding cannot establish a rate for these perfumes.

None of these general statements certifies a particular bottle here. Creed's FAQ says it guarantees authenticity for purchases from its UK site and boutiques.

If a bottle is fake, Citizens Advice says the buyer is entitled to a full refund within 30 days of payment. Its guidance describes debit-card chargeback and credit-card chargeback for purchases under £100. Section 75 covers credit card purchases from £100 to £30,000. Keep the listing, order record and packaging when raising the problem with the seller.

Check seals, returns and gift delivery

Regulation 28(3)(a) permits an exception to cancellation for sealed goods unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once unsealed after delivery. Shop policies set out their own conditions. The seal matters if a recipient may want to change their mind. Separately, the Consumer Rights Act requires goods supplied by description to match that description. A wrong or fake item raises that issue even where a simple change-of-mind return is unavailable.

For a gift, decide the recipient, exact bottle and delivery promise before waiting for a promotion. Kilian also offers Good Girl Gone Bad as four 7.5 ml bottles. The exact size, concentration and presentation come first. The store listings above provide live prices, while the worked table shows why delivered cost per ml matters. For a gift, read the seller's sourcing claims, delivery terms and seal conditions alongside the price. Keep cellophane intact until the recipient has decided to keep a correctly described bottle.
