For UK shoppers choosing a women's designer perfume, these picks pair published reviews and awards with exact bottles stocked by at least two compared shops on 3 November 2026. We checked each shop's listing for size, concentration and stock. We did no fragrance testing of our own.

Role: Choose this if the wearer likes sweet gourmand florals for after dark, as Marie Claire UK describes Carolina Herrera Good Girl. Skip it if they avoid sweetness or want Good Girl Blush or Very Good Girl.

What reviewers found: Marie Claire UK's Shannon Lawlor called it “sweet without being sickly” in the September 2026 list. Tori Crowther, also for Marie Claire UK, picked it for wearing after dark. YSL Libre: the strong perfume reviewer pick

Role: Choose this for a strong evening perfume: IndyBest found Yves Saint Laurent Libre almost as pungent at hour eight as at first spray; Marie Claire UK picked it for evenings. Skip it if they prefer a light scent.

What reviewers found: IndyBest's Lucy Smith named Libre its best strong perfume in July 2025 and found it almost as pungent at hour eight as at first spray. Role: Choose this if the wearer already knows and likes Mugler Alien, or can try it first. Skip it if this would be a blind gift, given Which?'s polarised panel.

What reviewers found: Which?'s Sam Morris reported that a blind panel of more than 40 people gave Alien 3 out of 5 for scent and found it polarising. It wasn't one of Which?'s recommended picks. British Vogue's Maria Goldbach included Alien among noughties fragrances making a comeback in February 2026.

Role: Choose this if the wearer wants the original Marc Jacobs Daisy, the versatile Eau de Toilette picked by IndyBest. Skip it if Which?'s “unapologetically sweet” verdict sounds too sweet for them.

Role: Choose this if the wearer wants a fruity floral that lasts, as reviewers found with Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. Skip it if a smaller outlay matters more than a big bottle's lower cost per ml, or if they want a flanker such as Intensément.

• Notes: Harper's Bazaar UK places it in its fruity floral category.

What reviewers found: Harper's Bazaar UK's Fleur Fruzza named it the best fruity floral. Cosmopolitan UK's Lia Mappoura put it first in an October 2025 long-lasting perfume list, saying it lasts all day and night. Marie Claire UK chose it as its best classic floral perfume.

Role: Choose this if the wearer likes rich, coffee-led gourmands such as the original Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium, which Woman & Home found was not overpowering. Skip it if Which?'s panel verdict about how it faded concerns them.

What reviewers found: Woman & Home's Stephanie Maylor called it a gourmand crowd pleaser, rich without being overpowering. The outlet also named it its best edgy gourmand. Which? gave it 3 out of 5 for scent; several panel members said it faded into a more generic, slightly unpleasant scent. The Fragrance Foundation UK named it Best New Fragrance (Women's) in 2015.

Role: Choose this if the wearer wants the women's Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Eau de Toilette, with lemon and apple notes listed by the brand. Skip it if they want Light Blue Pour Homme or Eau Intense instead.

Role: Choose this for lasting sweet gourmand florals: a Who What Wear tester recorded over 12 hours from Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. Skip it if they avoid sweet scents.

Gucci Bloom: an overtly floral choice

Role: Choose this if the wearer likes powdery florals and wants the staying power reviewers found in Gucci Bloom. Skip it if they dislike overtly floral scents, as Marie Claire UK warns.

What reviewers found: Marie Claire UK's Jazzria Harris named it the best floral powdery perfume. Woman & Home's Amelia Yeomans placed it second in a long-lasting list as a classic floral bouquet. Marie Claire UK noted its staying power while warning against it for people who dislike overtly floral scents.

How to choose a perfume

Match the exact bottle

A perfume name can cover several strengths, sizes and flankers. Each comparison uses one barcode, fixing size and concentration. The checked listings were in stock and excluded tester bottles, unboxed bottles, refills and gift sets.

Daisy and Light Blue are Eau de Toilette; the other eight are Eau de Parfum. Floris gives typical fragrance-oil ranges of 5 to 15 per cent for Eau de Toilette and 15 to 20 per cent for Eau de Parfum. Marie Claire UK's Olfiction experts say no legal or industry standard fixes those labels, so brands can overlap. The Tom Ford and Creed guide and the men's aftershave guide apply the exact-bottle approach elsewhere.

Decide whether to try it first

Which?'s Alien panel shows why a review can flag a risk without deciding personal taste. A tester may help with that decision, but it is a different item to a boxed gift bottle. Osmoz says testers often come in plain boxes and may lack caps. Gift sets also need a separate calculation. Woman & Home describes sets containing a scent plus a travel size or a matching lotion, cream or candle. Work out what the perfume in the set costs per ml, then compare that with the bottle on its own. A refillable spray, such as Paradoxe or Alien, includes the bottle in these cards; a refill is a separate purchase.

Work out the delivered cost per ml

Which? advises comparing value per 100 ml. Divide the delivered total by the millilitres. The table uses dated delivered totals for four La Vie Est Belle Eau de Parfum sizes, with each shop listing checked on 3 November 2026. The cards above display live prices.

The 100 ml costs less than twice the 30 ml total for over three times the perfume. Its per-ml cost is about 43% lower. The 50 ml to 75 ml step cuts cost per ml most. A larger bottle is worthwhile only if it will be used.

Check the seller and the seal

Darlington Trading Standards warns about perfume packaging made to mimic brands. Warning signs include misspellings, poor packaging and missing batch codes. Cosmetic labelling law requires a batch number or identifying reference, and Business Companion says that code may be on the outer packaging if it can't fit on the container. A missing code is a warning sign; a code by itself can't prove the bottle is genuine.

Which? found at least two thirds of the skincare and make-up it bought from third-party marketplace sellers likely counterfeit. That is not a perfume counterfeit rate. Citizens Advice recorded 3,535 counterfeit complaints in the year to November 2025, including 277 in toiletries, perfumes and beauty. Seller claims don't verify a particular bottle.

The Consumer Rights Act requires goods sold by description to match it. Citizens Advice says a buyer who receives a fake is entitled to a full refund within 30 days of payment. Its guidance also covers chargeback on debit and credit card purchases under £100 and section 75 for credit card purchases from £100 to £30,000. Keep the listing and order record.

For a change of mind, the seal is important. Regulation 28(3)(a) allows an exception to cancellation for sealed goods unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once unsealed after delivery. Leave a gift's seal intact until the recipient decides to keep it. Once the bottle is chosen, the Black Friday guide covers when sales run.

Reviewer picks we couldn't compare

Good Housekeeping UK names Coco Mademoiselle and J'adore among women's perfumes that regularly top UK sales charts. None of our four comparison shops lists those Chanel and Dior bottles or Miss Dior, so they have no cards here. Marie Claire UK described Givenchy L'Interdit Absolu as a punchier take on the original, but it wasn't in stock at two of these shops on 3 November 2026.

Rabanne Lady Million and Olympéa, Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal and La Belle, Armani My Way and the original Givenchy L'Interdit were compared at two or more shops. We found no named published review of those originals to cite, so they have no pick section.

It gives 30 days for returns and asks for intact tamper-resistant seals, packaging and cellophane. Its Tracked 48 estimate is five to seven business days.

You get hair care, skincare, fragrance and make-up from professional and p4 current offers · View store → says it works directly with its luxury brands. Its terms exclude cancellation for hygiene-sealed goods once the seal is broken after delivery. It says orders placed by 9pm are dispatched the same day.
