Big Green Smile started in 2006, when eco-friendly household products were growing in popularity but hard to find unless you lived near the right shop. The founders built a website so people could shop sustainably wherever they lived, with plenty of brands to choose from. It later launched in France, Germany and the Netherlands, and it is a certified B Corp.
The range
The shop covers personal care and skincare, natural deodorants and toothpaste, hair care, make-up, parent and baby products, men's grooming, cleaning and laundry, and gifts. You can shop by value, with filters for plastic free, organic, vegan, cruelty free, fragrance free and refillable. Bulk-buy and refill sections suit anyone trying to cut down on packaging.
Standards
The company says every product is reviewed by its team and free from a list of banned ingredients. Read the individual product page for the exact claims, because a filter tells you what a product is tagged for, not everything about the formula.
Delivery
Orders are sent by DHL from a warehouse in Amsterdam, and the company says UK deliveries are carbon neutral. Most orders leave the warehouse the same or the next working day. There's a flat delivery charge below a free-delivery threshold, and a small-order surcharge on low-value baskets. For the Scottish Highlands, Northern Ireland and islands, choose the right option at checkout. It doesn't deliver to Jersey or Guernsey.
