The story
Cold Town takes its name from Calton Hill in Edinburgh, which was originally called Caltoun, meaning Cold Town. The brewery says Edinburgh has been a brewer's city for centuries, helped by good local water and barley. It describes itself as a bold, modern take on traditional Scottish brewing.
The brewery
The brewery sits just off Leith Walk in the Canonmills area. Cold Town House in the Grassmarket serves the beers from its own tanks, so you can drink a pint brewed metres from your table with a view of the castle.
The range
Every beer starts as a small handcrafted batch. If drinkers love it, it goes on draught in bars and pubs across the country, and if it sells well it goes into cans like the ones sold online. The brewery's rule is simple: if you don't love a beer, they don't brew it again. The range runs from IPAs to lagers, and the shop also sells branded merchandise.
Delivery
Cold Town delivers to mainland UK only, dispatching on weekdays. Orders are processed automatically and stock can't be held, so don't order for a date weeks away. Because it is alcohol, the courier may ask to see ID. Delivery costs and any free-delivery threshold are on its delivery page and at checkout.
Click Can Collect
Local customers can pick up certain products from The Black Bull in the Grassmarket. Orders must be placed online in advance, only some products qualify, and you should bring photo ID and your order confirmation.
Returns
Merchandise that doesn't fit can be swapped for another size if you get in touch promptly. Damaged goods are replaced free of charge, so send photos of the damage and contact the team as soon as you can.
