Shopping with Crocus

Matching the format to your planting time

Crocus sells plants at different stages, so it helps to match the format to when you can plant. Tulip bulbs are ordered for planting in autumn and flower the following spring. Bare root trees, roses and hedging are supplied while dormant, so they suit planting during the cooler months before summer. Potted plants can go in at most times of year but need closer attention to watering while their roots establish.

Checking whether the five-year guarantee applies

The guarantee covers most fully hardy perennials, climbers, shrubs and trees, but only those carrying the guarantee stamp on their product page qualify. Bulbs are not covered, and the guarantee assumes reasonable care, including suitable growing conditions and regular watering during warm or dry spells. A claim requires a photo of the plant and a description of the problem, sent with your order reference. Successful claims are settled with a replacement or gift voucher rather than cash.

Planning around delivery

Delivery options are listed against each item, and the choice depends on what you are buying. Seed packets, bulbs, indoor plants and oversized products each have different charges and timings. Most items arrive within a few working days of despatch, though seeds can take a little longer. Deliveries are not made on bank holidays or the day after, and not every postcode is covered, so check yours before building a large basket. Click and collect is no longer offered.

Returns for living products

Because plants are living, returns work differently from ordinary goods. If you change your mind, notify Crocus within 14 days of delivery, then return the item in its original condition within a further 14 days. Plants that look bare in winter are often dormant, so contact the team with photographs before posting anything back. Returns must be sent by post, as the nursery is not open to visitors.
