Choosing the right frame size

The mini folding models, such as the 14-inch D3F, suit people who need to store a bike in a flat, boot or on a train. The 20-inch T1 and 16-inch C2 fold too but give a longer ride. The 26-inch C6 is the most conventional city bike in the lineup and is better if you ride regularly on longer routes.

Battery and range

Batteries vary across the range. The D3F uses a 36V 7.8Ah pack with a stated maximum range of up to 33km, while the C6 has a detachable 12.5Ah battery rated to around 60km. The C6's removable battery is useful if you want to charge it indoors without wheeling the whole bike inside. Ranges are manufacturer figures and will drop with rider weight, hills and assistance level.

Motors and terrain

Most models use a 250W motor. The M20 is aimed at rougher ground and advertises a 25 degree climbing angle and dual-actuated mechanical disc brakes, which suits trails and sandy or snowy paths better than a standard commuter. If your route is mostly flat tarmac, a folding model with a lighter frame will usually be easier to live with.

Bundles and what to check

DYU offers pairings of two bikes, which can make sense for a family. Before buying, check the stated load capacity and weight on the product page, since the D3F and T1 list 120kg and weights of 17kg and 22.5kg. If you need to lift the bike onto a rack or up stairs, weight matters more than the headline range figure.
