Shopping with Frames

Choosing between made to measure and ready made

If your artwork is a standard photo or poster size, the ready-made range is the quicker route, since those frames are dispatched on the same working day when ordered before 4pm. Made to measure suits anything else. Original paintings, unusual prints and photographs with an awkward crop all benefit from entering exact dimensions, because the frame is built to fit the picture rather than the picture being trimmed to suit.

Mounts, and why the size you enter matters

A mount creates a border between the artwork and the frame. Frames.co.uk cuts the opening slightly smaller than the dimensions you enter, so the mount overlaps the artwork on each side. If you want the artwork to sit without that overlap, you need to add to the width and height yourself. Check this before adding a mount to the basket, as it changes what you actually receive.

Delivery costs depend on where you live

Delivery is charged by destination band and order value. Free delivery applies to England and Wales above text £50, but the Scottish Isles, Northern Ireland and the UK Isles are excluded from that free option and carry their own rates. Choose the correct delivery option for your address, since the site says it will contact you to correct an option chosen in error. Standard pricing assumes parcels up to 1,000mm in length and under 10kg.

Order samples before committing

For a large or expensive piece, ordering frame or mount samples lets you compare colour and finish against your artwork at home. It is a sensible step for darker or gilded finishes, where screen colour can differ noticeably from the real thing.
