Setting up an AI employee and testing it in the Playground
A shared inbox for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and web chat where AI employees answer customers and qualify leads
Heyy has a 7-day free trial with no card needed. Prices in US dollars as Heyy's pricing page showed them on 11 October 2026.
Heyy is a shared inbox and chatbot builder for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and website chat, where AI "employees" answer customer questions, qualify leads and hand tricky chats to your team. It suits small businesses that sell and support over messaging apps. There is no free plan: Hobby costs $49 a month after a 7-day trial, or $41 a month billed yearly, which gives two months free.
You give each AI employee a name, role, tone and written guidelines, and a knowledge base built from your website, uploaded documents, plain text or question-and-answer pairs. Separate employees can cover support and sales, or different brands.
Employees can read and update contact fields, send files, trigger other automations and call an external API, so they can look up an order or create a ticket mid-conversation.
A canvas editor builds workflows from triggers and actions across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, SMS and live chat, including buttons, lists, templates and HTTP requests to your own systems.
Every channel lands in one inbox with team and personal views, labels, quick replies and a contact panel. Exit points such as Escalate to Human route chats from the AI to the right team.
Broadcast campaigns go to contact lists with delivery and read tracking, and paid plans add scheduled, recurring and journey campaigns.
Contacts carry labels, custom attributes and conversation history, with import, export, filters and bulk actions.
A Playground lets you chat with an AI employee and check its replies, actions and exit points before connecting real customer traffic.

Prices in US dollars; VAT not mentioned. Yearly billing gives two months free. Add-ons: $30 a user, $40 a channel, $50 an AI employee, $8 a WhatsApp number, $20 for 1,000 credits. WhatsApp messages are charged on top. Prices in US dollars, from Heyy's pricing page on 11 October 2026. Heyy may charge VAT on top, and prices can change.
Heyy starts at $49 a month for the Hobby plan, or $41 a month when billed yearly, and prices are shown in US dollars only. A UK card is charged in dollars, so your bank may add a foreign transaction fee, and the pricing page does not mention VAT.
The plans step up by users, AI employees, channels and monthly credits:
Add-ons are charged monthly: $30 for each extra user, $40 for an extra channel, $50 for an extra AI employee, $8 for an extra WhatsApp number and $20 for another 1,000 credits. Heyy also says credits and WhatsApp messages carry extra charges, set out in separate rate sheets.
An AI employee is a chatbot you set up with a name, a tone, written guidelines and a knowledge base built from your website, documents, plain text or question-and-answer pairs. It replies to customers inside automations you build on a visual canvas, so you decide when it starts, what it may do and where the chat goes next.
Each employee can read and update contact fields, send files, call an external API through a custom action and trigger other automations. Exit points such as "Escalate to Human" route a conversation to a team inbox, where staff see the full history. A Playground lets you test replies before customers see them.
For a small business that already gets most of its enquiries over WhatsApp and Instagram, Heyy bundles a shared inbox, broadcast campaigns, a simple CRM and AI replies in one place, which would otherwise mean several tools. The Hobby plan is limited, though: one user, one AI employee, 3 MB of knowledge per employee and 10 automations.
Independent user reviews are scarce. Its Capterra listing showed no user ratings in search results, and no G2 or Trustpilot profile turned up, so the main evidence is the company's own testimonials. Heyy is a small, bootstrapped company founded in 2024, which is worth weighing before moving all customer messaging onto it.
Heyy is built around messaging channels, with a shared inbox, WhatsApp templates, campaigns and contact records, while Chatbase is mainly an AI support agent trained on your content and embedded on a website. Heyy suits teams that sell and support on WhatsApp and Instagram; Chatbase suits teams that mostly want a website chatbot.
Watermelon is another option for AI customer service across chat channels, and Lindy suits people who want broader AI agents that also handle email and other tasks.
Yes. Heyy connects to WhatsApp through Meta's official route, so any UK business with a Meta Business Portfolio and a number that can receive a verification text or call can connect it.
There are two ways to connect. With the Cloud API the number moves entirely into Heyy and can no longer be used in the WhatsApp app on a phone; with Coexistence you keep using the WhatsApp Business app alongside Heyy, but Heyy says this is less stable. Meta's conversation window rules also apply, so after a period without a reply you can only message a customer with an approved template.
Yearly billing gives two months free on every plan, bringing Hobby down to $41 a month and Pro to $125 a month. The 7-day trial on Hobby needs no card, so you can test an AI employee in the Playground before paying.
Buying only the add-ons you need, rather than jumping a plan, can also save money: one extra channel at $40 is cheaper than moving from Hobby to Pro.
