Mama Bamboo: what to know before you buy

The story

Mama Bamboo describes itself as a team of parents worried about how many plastic nappies and wipes the UK uses every day. Its answer is bamboo, which it calls soft, absorbent, breathable and naturally antibacterial, and it says it is aimed at helping with nappy rash.

The brand was the first European nappy company to become a B Corp, and recertified with a higher score.

The range

Nappies and pull-up nappy pants lead, alongside bamboo wipes, organic baby bath products and gifts. Bundles combine nappies and wipes, and a gift subscription is available.

Bamboo is the thread running through everything. The nappies use bamboo viscose, plant-based liners and chlorine-free pulp, with no fragrance, alcohol or latex. Its trial bundle pairs a pack of nappies with wipes to try the brand for the first time.

The brand says it offsets its residual carbon, and that its wipes and packaging are designed to be biodegradable or compostable.

Subscribing

You can buy once or subscribe. Subscribers get regular deliveries, rewards and discounts, and can swap, skip, delay or cancel without a commitment through an online account.

Delivery

Orders go by tracked courier, and you choose your carrier at checkout. Free delivery on larger baskets applies to mainland UK, and remote postcodes can cost extra. Orders are tracked, and the courier texts or emails an estimated arrival time. Larger parcels often don't fit parcel lockers, so the brand advises against redirecting to one.

Returns

Unopened, undamaged goods can be returned for a refund or store credit within the stated window. Opened packs and single packs from a bundle can't be returned, for hygiene reasons. Return postage is paid by you, and you need an approval reference first.

Giving back

Through its Give Another Mother scheme, Mama Bamboo matches customer donations of nappies and wipes for neonatal units, with the charity Ickle Pickles.
