Shopping with New Look

What it is good for

New Look is the sort of shop you use for the unglamorous stuff that still has to fit properly: work trousers, jeans, knitwear, basics, nightwear, a dress for a wedding you forgot about. The range covers women's, men's and girls', and on the women's side there are dedicated petite, tall, curves and maternity ranges, which is more than plenty of cheap rivals bother with. It also stocks other brands alongside its own label, and those are usually locked out of discount codes.

Delivery, and the £50 rule

Standard delivery is £2.99 with Evri, usually 3 to 5 working days. It goes free once you have more than £50 of full-price or promo-price items in the bag. Sale items do not count towards that £50, so a basket full of reductions can still leave you paying postage. Express is £3.99 for delivery within 2 working days if you order before 8pm, and next day is £5.99 if you order before 9pm Monday to Friday. There is no Sunday or bank holiday delivery.

Click and collect is the cheaper route: standard collection to a New Look store is free, takes 3 to 5 working days and you get 10 days to pick it up. Evri lockers are free over £50 but you only have 3 days to collect, which is tight if you are not going past it daily.

Returns are better in a shop

You get 28 days to return things you have changed your mind about, including items bought with a promo code. Bring them back to any UK New Look store and it costs nothing; post them from an Evri, InPost or similar drop-off point and it is £2.95. Either way, the refund can take up to 14 calendar days to process, then another 3 to 5 working days to land on your card, so do not panic in week one.

Sale items are the sting. Online, you have to tell them within 14 days of receiving the order, then you have a further 14 days to send it back. Sale items bought in a store can only be exchanged, not refunded. Online orders cannot be exchanged in store at all, which catches people out when they want a different size.

Ways to pay less

  • Club New Look is free to join and shows members-only prices on a lot of products automatically, with no code to enter. It also gets you early access to sales and a birthday gift.
  • Students can generate a one-off code through UNiDAYS, Student Beans or TOTUM, or show a student photo ID in store. It does not work on sale items or other brands.
  • Blue Light Card and Defence Services members have their own discount on full-price New Look-branded items.
  • If you have an account with your birthday filled in, a birthday code arrives by email about once a year.
  • Price matching: staff will honour a valid online promotion in store if you say so before you pay. They will not match marketplaces or other retailers.

Most codes are single use and exclude sale, discounted and other brands' items, so check what is in your bag before blaming the code.

Paying and getting help

Cards and PayPal are accepted, plus Klarna and PayPal Pay in 3 on baskets over £30 (both are credit). You can cancel an order within 20 minutes of placing it, but not edit it, and not cancel a single item. There is no phone number: help is through messaging and the help centre.
