Choosing between a phone and a SIM-only deal
If you already own a handset that works well, a SIM-only plan through the O2 shop is the simpler route, since the shop lists SIM-only options alongside its phone range. If you are upgrading, compare the device cost against the monthly airtime rather than looking at the handset price alone. The shop also lists trade-in offers on some newer models, which can change the monthly figure, so read the small print on the offer page before you commit.
Delivery and collection
O2 offers click and collect from a local store, and free home delivery on devices, SIMs and accessories. Click and collect needs your four digit collection reference plus photo ID, and O2 says it will hold an order for seven days before cancelling it. Home delivery times depend on what you buy and where you live, so check the delivery times for your postcode at checkout rather than assuming next-day arrival.
Premium delivery for phones and tablets
If you cannot be home during the day, the premium delivery option lets you pick a morning or weekend slot for phones and tablets. The page lists a fee and cut-off times that vary by region, and it notes that premium delivery is not available in remote locations. It is worth confirming availability for your address before you pay for it.
Out-of-stock and pre-order items
Items that are out of stock, on pre-order or on back-order are not eligible for free next-day delivery, and O2 sends them once they are available. If timing matters, check stock first, or choose a store where the handset is already on the shelf for same-day collection.
