Privy is an email, SMS and pop-up marketing tool for online shops, best known as a Shopify app for growing a mailing list with sign-up pop-ups and discount codes. It suits small ecommerce brands on Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix. There is no free plan: email starts at $30 a month for up to 1,500 contacts, pop-ups alone cost $24 a month, and a 15-day trial needs no card.
Sign-up pop-ups, flyouts, bars and embedded forms built from templates, including spin-to-win wheels, exit-intent offers, countdown timers and multi-step quizzes. Targeting covers time on page, scrolling, traffic source, products viewed and country.
Displays and emails can hand out a store discount code, pulled from Shopify, BigCommerce or Wix, as the reward for signing up.
A drag-and-drop editor with ecommerce templates that can drop in products and discount codes, with lists segmented and campaigns scheduled from the same dashboard.
A visual flow builder with ready-made flows for welcome series, abandoned baskets, purchase follow-ups and win-backs, triggered by store events such as a product added to the cart.
Text campaigns, automated texts and, since Privy bought Emotive, one-to-one conversations with shoppers. Privy prices SMS credits for US and Canadian numbers and lists the UK as coming soon.
Segments built from email engagement, purchases and sign-up details, with real-time reports on opens, clicks and revenue across campaigns and flows.
Email and live chat support on paid plans, with Privy saying each brand gets a strategist and a deliverability team to help messages reach inboxes.

The page doesn't state UK VAT treatment. Prices in US dollars, from AdPrivy's pricing page on 11 October 2026. Privy may charge VAT on top, and prices can change.
“I use Privy for my Shopify store and it's a game changer.”
“They changed the plans without notifying anyone prior.”
“Customer service was robotic”
Privy charges in US dollars, from $30 a month for email to up to 1,500 mailable contacts, and the price rises with your list. A pop-ups-only plan costs $24 a month for up to 10,000 page views.
The email price climbs in steps: $45 for up to 2,000 contacts, $90 for 5,000, $165 for 10,000, $390 for 25,000, $540 for 50,000 and $840 for 100,000. Privy only counts mailable contacts, meaning people who opted in to your marketing, and every paid plan has unlimited email sends. If your list passes a tier during the month, Privy moves you up automatically and charges the difference. Privy's billing help says it bills in USD by card through Stripe, so UK shops pay a sterling amount that moves with the exchange rate. The pricing page doesn't say how VAT is handled.
Not yet. Privy's pricing page lists SMS for the UK and Australia as coming soon, and its help centre prices SMS credits for US and Canadian numbers only.
That matters because Privy now sells itself as an email and SMS platform, especially since buying the SMS company Emotive in July 2025. For a UK shop, the useful parts today are the pop-ups, email campaigns and automated flows. Paid plans include 250 SMS credits a month, but those are of little use to a shop whose customers have UK mobile numbers.
For a shop that mainly wants sign-up pop-ups and simple email flows, it can be, because the pop-up builder is what reviewers praise most and the starting price is low.
Privy's displays include spin-to-win wheels, exit-intent pop-ups, quizzes, cart savers and countdown timers, with targeting by page, traffic source and basket. Email flows cover welcome series, abandoned baskets, post-purchase follow-ups and win-backs, built from templates. On the Shopify App Store the app shows 4.5 stars from over 4,200 reviews. The complaints are about money rather than features: several Trustpilot and Shopify reviewers say they kept being charged after uninstalling the app, which Privy's help centre confirms is how it works. Uninstalling doesn't cancel the plan.
Privy suits smaller shops that want pop-ups and email in one cheap, simple tool, while Klaviyo suits growing brands that need deeper segmentation and reporting.
Privy's own comparison pages set it against Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend and Flodesk. Privy also connects to Klaviyo and Mailchimp, so some shops use only its $24 pop-up plan to collect contacts and send them on to another email tool. For quiz-led sign-ups, Interact is a dedicated quiz builder, and beehiiv suits brands whose newsletter is the product rather than a shop's sales emails.
The ways Privy states are paying only for mailable contacts, choosing the pop-ups-only plan if you already have an email tool, and using the 15-day trial before paying.
Privy's help centre mentions annual and promotional plans but notes that annual plans can't be refunded or cancelled before renewal, and the public pricing page shows monthly prices only.
Free planQuiz builder that turns personality, assessment and product quizzes into segmented email leads

Klaviyo now charges for every profile it can email, so a Shopify shop's bill grows with its checkout customers as well as its subscribers. Shopify Messaging covers the basics for little, Omnisend is the closest cheaper rival, and Privy suits shops whose first job is growing the list. Klaviyo is $100 a month at 5,000 profiles.
We don't currently list a confirmed discount code. That doesn't mean the store has no promotions; check its website for current prices.
No. Privy offers a 15-day free trial without a card, after which displays switch off and flows stop unless you choose a paid plan. During the trial, email is limited to 100 contacts a day and SMS isn't included.
Privy's help centre says refund requests are reviewed case by case within 10 days of the charge. It doesn't refund annual plans, promotional rates, accidental upgrades or months when the app was uninstalled but the plan wasn't cancelled.
No. Privy says the plan isn't cancelled automatically when the app is uninstalled or the store closes. You need to cancel the plan or close the account under Plans and Billing in the dashboard.
Privy says its forms record each contact's opt-in time, IP address and the display they signed up through, offers GDPR-friendly templates with consent text, and lets you delete a contact's data. It publishes a data processing addendum for customers who need one.
Privy lists Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, Weebly and WordPress, with contacts syncing to Shopify, BigCommerce and Wix and to tools such as Klaviyo and Mailchimp.
Privy was bought by Attentive in 2021 and became independent again in 2023, according to its own blog. In July 2025 Privy acquired Emotive, a conversational SMS company.
