What does ScaledMail do?
ScaledMail sells cold email infrastructure: it buys or connects your domains, creates the inboxes, configures SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and hands the inboxes over ready to plug into a sending tool.
It doesn't write or send campaigns itself. Warm-up and sequences run in a separate sequencer such as Smartlead, Instantly, EmailBison or PlusVibe, and ScaledMail says that is deliberate so you don't pay twice for warm-up. Each customer gets isolated tenants rather than shared infrastructure, a dedicated Slack channel for support, and set-up within 24 to 72 hours. Pre-aged, pre-warmed domains are on offer for teams that need to send from day one.
How much does ScaledMail cost in the UK?
ScaledMail prices in dollars per month: Google Workspace inboxes are $3.50 each, Microsoft Outlook is $50 per domain with 25 inboxes, and SMTP is $3.75 per domain with 4 inboxes.
The real cost depends on how many emails you want to send a day. ScaledMail caps sending at 25 emails a day per Google inbox and 10 a day per Microsoft or SMTP inbox, so volume decides how many inboxes and domains you need. Its worked example for 2,000 emails a day, split across all three providers, comes to 42 domains and 218 inboxes for $397.75 a month, plus $256 if you add the optional reporting on every account. ScaledMail's FAQ puts most teams at that volume at around $400 to $500 a month. The site doesn't mention VAT or sterling prices, so UK buyers pay in dollars.
Is cold email legal in the UK?
To businesses, largely yes; to individuals, no without consent. The UK's PECR rules let you email limited companies, LLPs and public bodies without prior consent, but treat sole traders and some partnerships as individuals.
The ICO's guidance says every marketing email must show who it is from and give a working way to opt out, and that you should keep a do-not-email list of businesses that object. UK GDPR still applies when the address names a person. ScaledMail provides the inboxes, not legal advice, so responsibility for who you email stays with you.
ScaledMail vs buying Google Workspace yourself: which is better?
Buying inboxes directly is cheaper per inbox but leaves you to register domains, set DNS records and watch reputation yourself. ScaledMail bundles that set-up and monitoring into its price.
The case for ScaledMail is time and support: reviewers on Trustpilot mostly praise the Slack support and quick fixes, and the company says it manages more than 230,000 inboxes. Rival infrastructure sellers it compares itself with include Inframail, Maildoso, Mailforge, Zapmail and MailDeck, and some sequencers such as Instantly sell inboxes too. None of these appear in this section, so for newsletters or shop email rather than cold outreach, beehiiv or Privy are the tools to look at instead.
How do you keep ScaledMail costs down?
The levers ScaledMail describes are the provider mix, the sending volume and skipping optional extras.
- Size the package to the daily volume you actually need, using the package builder.
- Mix providers: Microsoft packs 25 inboxes into each $50 domain, while Google charges per inbox.
- Bring your own domains from a registrar such as GoDaddy or Namecheap, which ScaledMail will configure.
- Leave reporting off unless you need it, as it adds $2 per Google inbox or $5 per Microsoft domain.
Packages are billed monthly with no long-term contract, so volume can be adjusted or cancelled as campaigns change.
