Travelodge: what to know before you buy

What kind of hotels does Travelodge run?

Travelodge runs budget hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain, in cities, towns, holiday destinations, near airports and in business areas. Every double and family room has its king-size Dreamer bed, an en-suite shower room, a desk and a TV. Some hotels add SuperRooms, with extras such as a coffee machine, a choice of pillows and blackout curtains, and Standard Room Plus rooms in quieter parts of the building. The hotel search filters by features such as SuperRooms, an on-site Bar Café, parking and EV charging.

Which Travelodge rate suits a booking?

It depends on how fixed the plans are. The Lowest Rate is paid upfront and can’t be refunded, and its dates and guest names can’t be changed. The Semi-Flex Rate isn’t refundable either, but its dates can be changed for a fee. The Flexible Rate can be cancelled for a refund up to the cut-off in its booking terms, and changed subject to availability.

Does Travelodge serve breakfast?

Yes, at hotels with an on-site Bar Café. Unlimited Breakfast there covers a cooked selection, lighter choices such as granola, yoghurt and croissants, and unlimited hot drinks and juice, and it can be added when booking or later by amending the booking. Breakfast to Go, a packed option, can be added to a booking or bought at reception. Hotels without a Bar Café don’t serve Unlimited Breakfast, so the hotel page is worth checking before booking.

What are the rules on check-in, pets and parking?

Check-in opens in the afternoon and check-out is by midday, with early check-in and late check-out sold as extras. The person booking has to be an adult. Pets can stay only with a paid pet extra, while guide, hearing and medical assistance dogs stay at no charge as long as the hotel is told in advance. Parking is available at many hotels, run by Travelodge or a third party, with details and fees on each hotel’s page.

How can bookers keep the cost down at Travelodge?

Booking early helps, since Travelodge sets prices by demand and they tend to rise when demand is high. Its Best Price Finder searches a city, town or postcode for affordable stays, and any Travelodge codes we confirm are listed on this page. Payment is taken in full at booking, by card, Apple Pay or PayPal, with Klarna and Clearpay also offered. For a room after a night out, our guide to the UK club season compares Travelodge rooms near club venues, and Britannia Hotels and Malmaison are other UK hotel chains to compare.

Shoppers' questions

Questions about Travelodge, answered by us and by readers who've shopped there.

  1. Does Travelodge have hotels in Ireland?

    Our answer

Yes. Travelodge's Ireland page lists 11 hotels: Belfast Central, Cork Airport, Dublin Airport North 'Swords', Dublin Airport South, Dublin Phoenix Park, Dublin City Centre, Dublin City Centre Rathmines, Galway City, Limerick Castletroy, Limerick Ennis Road and Waterford. They're booked on travelodge.co.uk in the same way as its other hotels.

  2. Does Travelodge have an app?

    Our answer

Yes. The Travelodge Hotels app is free on the App Store and is also on Google Play. It lets you search for hotels by location, compare prices, check a hotel's facilities and what's nearby, and book a stay. Once you've booked, you can retrieve the booking in the app and get directions and contact details for the hotel.

  3. What is Travelodge's cancellation policy?

    Our answer

It depends on the rate. Flexible Rate bookings can be cancelled for a refund before the check-in date or before 12pm on the check-in day, through Manage Booking or by phone. The refund covers the room and any food and beverage Extras, but not other Extras or a booking fee, and goes back to the card used, normally within 10 days. Semi-Flex and Lowest Rate bookings aren't refundable in whole or in part. Semi-Flex dates can be changed for £12.50 per change online or £15 by phone, while Lowest Rate bookings can't be amended. No rate is refunded for a no-show.

  4. Does Travelodge do a Blue Light or NHS discount?

    Our answer

Yes. Blue Light Card members save 5% on Travelodge bookings made online or in the app. Blue Light Card covers NHS staff, teachers, emergency services, armed forces, police, social care workers and retirees from these professions, and costs £4.99 for two years. Travelodge says you add the discount on its basket page, and bookings must be made 7 days before the first night and be for no more than 3 nights.
