Before you buy

Shopping with Aquatics Shop (UK)

Choosing a tank and kit The shop stocks complete starter tanks such as LED-lit glass tanks in various sizes, alongside larger stand-mounted aquariums. Check the litre capacity before you buy, as it determines how many fish and how much filtration you will need. A small globe or waterfall-style tank suits a single betta or a few small fish, while a 58-litre or 105-litre setup gives more room for a community of species.

Maintenance essentials Algae scrapers, water clarifiers and ammonia-binding treatments make up a large part of the everyday range. Acrylic and glass tanks need different scrapers, so confirm the material before buying one. Stock up on conditioners and test products if you are setting up a new tank, as these help you keep water quality stable during the first weeks.

Livestock and substrate Gravel, substrate and fish are shipped direct, which means packaging and timing matter. Livestock is packed in insulated containers, so it is worth planning your delivery day and having the tank ready. Substrate such as black gravel is a practical way to finish a display without needing a separate order.

Delivery and dead-on-arrival cover The shop publishes a dead-on-arrival policy for livestock found deceased on delivery. You must inspect the parcel immediately and report within two hours of signing, and the packaging must be unopened. Cover applies only to fish found dead on arrival, not those that decline after being added to your tank. Shipping fees are non-refundable, so factor them into your budget when ordering small items.
