Shopping with GI Cognition
Choosing the right test
The catalogue is organised by the question you are trying to answer. SIBO tests look for bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, and IMO tests look for methane-producing overgrowth, which is a different thing. If your symptoms are not clearly linked to either, the combined SIBO and IMO kits cover both in one test. Lactose and fructose kits are narrower and suit people who already suspect a specific food is the trigger. Lactulose and glucose versions use different sugars as the test substrate, so the choice is about which sugar the service recommends for your situation rather than price.
Delivery within Great Britain
GI Cognition ships only to England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is excluded, so anyone there should contact the company directly before buying. Orders are dispatched within one working day, Monday to Friday, by Royal Mail Tracked and Signed. The company states that kits are sent in packaging made to MHRA and UK biohazard rules, and that you can track the parcel from dispatch through to delivery.
Returning your sample and the product
Each kit includes a prepaid envelope for returning your completed breath sample, so you can post it from any Royal Mail postbox without paying postage. Keep this distinction in mind: the prepaid label covers the sample only. Returning an unopened, unused kit is a separate process, covered by a 14-day contact window and a 30-day return window, and the customer usually pays return postage unless the item is faulty or wrong. Opened or used kits cannot be returned.
Getting the most from the result
Results are processed within 3 to 5 working days of the sample arriving at the lab, and the report is interpreted by a clinician. Because the service is positioned as a diagnosis rather than a data dump, it is worth reading the report with the symptoms you actually have in mind. Questions about a report can be raised with the company's UK-based team by email or phone.
