Shopping with Townsend Music

Standard against limited pressings

Many albums appear in several forms on the site, from a plain CD or cassette through to coloured vinyl and signed copies. Check whether the version you want is marked as exclusive or limited, since those runs tend to be the ones that disappear first. Pre-order listings are shown separately from items already in stock, so note which group you are shopping in before committing.

Boxsets worth comparing

Boxsets are where the store stands out. Some collections gather a full run of singles in picture sleeves, while others pair an album on CD with clear vinyl and a printed lyric sheet. Work out how many discs or records a set contains and whether the extras matter to you. If you mainly want the music, a single standard edition will usually do the job for less.

Checking the format line

The format label matters more than the artwork. A listing that says Vinyl and one that says Boxset describe very different purchases, and a test pressing is a separate product again. Read the product name and format together so you know exactly what arrives.

Following artists and new releases

If you follow a particular act, the artist pages group related editions together, which helps when comparing a standard release with a deluxe one. New albums are often flagged as just announced or one to watch, so those sections are the place to look for early access to a pressing.
