Choose the scale before the building. Metcalfe's 00/H0 and N kits produce different proportions, so a small first project still needs to match any figures, track or scenery you already own.
Use the product photographs, footprint and downloadable instructions to judge the commitment before ordering. Add the cutting surface, adhesive and any finishing materials to the basket calculation instead of treating the kit price as the entire project.
