Shopping with Ecotricity

All Ecotricity's electricity is certified green. Its gas is a mix of green and fossil gas, backed by carbon removal projects in Britain, and all its tariffs are vegan-certified.

It has two household tariffs:

  • Green Variable: no contract and no exit fees; it's exempt from the Ofgem price cap, which Ecotricity says lets it build more green generation
  • Pay As You Go: pay in advance, with prices reviewed every three months

Both work with Economy 7 meters, and neither needs a smart meter.

Ecotricity's prices aren't in my energy comparison, because it doesn't publish them in a form I can use. To see what it would charge for your home, get a quote on its site, then set that figure against the cheapest deals in my comparison for your region. Because Green Variable isn't covered by the price cap, compare its quote with the cap for your region too.

To switch, get a quote on Ecotricity's site. It says you'll be supplied within about five working days, and there's a refer-a-friend scheme.
