This page lists discounts for blue light workers: police, fire and rescue, ambulance and NHS staff, first responders, social workers, the armed forces and veterans. Police, fire, NHS and armed forces staff can verify here with a work email and a six-digit code, valid for 12 months, then unlock offers marked “Unlock with Vouchernaut” in one tap. Other groups can't verify here yet, and each listed card says who checks.
Who counts as blue light?
Who counts as blue light depends on who runs the discount. Blue Light Card, which some stores use for their own discounts, lists these groups, most of them including retired staff:
- NHS and healthcare: NHS workers, dental practice staff, pharmacy workers and optometrists
- Emergency services: ambulance, fire, HM Coastguard, Blood Bikes, Mountain Rescue, 4x4 Response and the Red Cross
- Police and justice: police, HM Prison and Probation Services, MoD Police and the Home Office
- Armed forces: the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, RAF, veterans, MoD civil servants and the MoD Fire Service
- Teaching, social care and community, search and rescue, and Highways England traffic officers
This page covers police, fire and rescue, ambulance and other emergency services, first responders, NHS and healthcare staff, social workers, the armed forces and veterans. Teachers have a page of their own.
How does verifying with a work email work?
For groups with a recognised work email, verifying takes a code rather than paperwork. You type your work address, we send a six-digit code to it, and once you type the code in you're verified for 12 months. If you're signed in, the status stays on your Vouchernaut account; as a guest, it lasts for that browser session, and you can keep it on an account afterwards.
Brands only learn that you're verified, not your email address, unless you choose to share your details for a particular offer. A police, fire or NHS status also counts for emergency services offers that accept it. Any of these statuses can count for key worker offers too, and each card lists the groups it accepts.
Which work addresses count?
The check works from a set of domains for each service:
- Police: addresses ending police.uk, such as Police Scotland's scotland.pnn.police.uk.
- Fire and rescue: services don't share one domain (London Fire Brigade, for example, uses london-fire.gov.uk), so the check accepts a list of UK fire and rescue services' domains.
- Ambulance: ambulance services are run by the health service. England has ten NHS ambulance trusts, Wales has the Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust and Northern Ireland's service is a health and social care trust, so ambulance staff verify with their NHS or health service address.
- Armed forces: mod.gov.uk and addresses ending mod.uk.
Personal addresses such as Gmail or Outlook can't show where you work, so the check refuses them.
What if your role can't verify by email yet?
Our check for first responders, social workers and veterans works from a document rather than an email address, and it isn't available yet. The same goes for anyone in the groups above whose work address isn't on our list. Until it's ready, the store-run discounts on this page are the route, and each card says whether it needs a Blue Light Card, the Defence Discount Service or the store's own check.
Blue Light Card costs £4.99 for two years. It accepts some volunteer roles, such as St John Ambulance and certain first responder groups, and retired frontline workers with at least four years' service.
How do offers you unlock with Vouchernaut differ from the rest?
Two kinds of discount sit on this page, and each card says which it is. Offers marked “Unlock with Vouchernaut” come from brands that accept our check, so once you're verified the code or link appears in one tap. The rest are run by the stores, often through Blue Light Card, the Defence Discount Service, Health Service Discounts or their own checks, and you verify with whoever the card names. Vouchernaut isn't connected to the police, the NHS, the Ministry of Defence, any fire and rescue service or any of those schemes.
