Choosing between the Original and the Mips model
Newlane offers two helmets. The Original is described as everyday protection that is compact and reliable. The Mips model is built like the original but adds extra protection. If you ride regularly in traffic or want the added protection feature, the Mips version is the one to look at; if you mainly want a light, packable helmet for short commutes, the Original covers the basics.
Checking the fit before you buy
There are only two sizes: Medium (56-60cm) and Large (61-63cm). Men average 58cm and women 56cm, so measure your head before ordering. The helmet has a rear size adjuster and a chin strap to refine the fit, and it only fits properly once the crown is flipped and clipped into riding position with the back adjuster released. Helmets are not designed for riders under 16, so this is not a children's option at present.
Thinking about the folding design
The helmet folds down with a Flip-Clip so it can go into a bag, which suits people who ride part of a journey or who leave a helmet at work. The matching backpack has a dedicated space for the folded helmet and can also be used as an ordinary bag with or without the helmet, so it works as a general commuter bag.
Returns, warranty and what to check on arrival
Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery, excluding sale items, provided helmets have not been worn outside and are in re-sellable condition. Return postage is at the customer's cost unless the item is faulty. Every product carries a one-year warranty from purchase covering defects, and there is a Crash Replacement Programme for helmets involved in an impact at a reduced cost. Keep your order number and the original packaging in case you need either.
