About the event
From See Tickets's listing
Northern Silents Presents THE MAN WHO LAUGHS A silent film with live music A cruel king has a young boy stolen away in the dead of night and has his face carved into a permanent grin, as a punishment for his father's misdeeds. Cast out from society, Gwynplaine grows up to work as a carnival sideshow performer, his disfigurement drawing crowds who come to gawp at his unsettling appearance. Based on Victor Hugo's novel, The Man Who Laughs blends gruesome horror, dark romance and swashbuckling adventure. Conrad Veidt brings the same magnetic intensity to the screen that he displayed in The Cabinet of Dr Caligari eight years earlier - and his performance went on to inspire the striking look of the Joker, Batman's arch-enemy. Pianist Jonny Best and cellist Liz Hanks will improvise a live score. Two of the UK's leading silent-film scorers, Liz performs regularly with a wide range of artists, from Richard Hawley and Pulp to Thea Gilmore and Jasdeep Singh Degun. Her debut solo album, Land, has been featured on Unclassified, Late Junction and Breakfast on BBC Radio 3, as well as The Folk Show on BBC Radio 2. Jonny is one of the UK's foremost silent-film pianists and the founder of Northern Silents. Together, they'll weave a new soundscape and bring this striking film vividly to life. The Man Who Laughs, 1928, USA, directed by Paul Leni Running time: 125 minutes + interval

How I list these
Everything here comes from the feeds of the ticket and experience sellers I work with: See Tickets. That's a lot, but it isn't everything on in Bradford: venues that sell their own tickets, or sell through sellers whose feeds don't reach me, won't show here yet.
Events are in date order, and a show on several dates appears once, on its first, with how many more there are. Things to do any day start with the seller's own UK picks, then those rated 4.5 or more, guided before self-guided, shared before private, then by rating and price. Every ticket link is an ad: if you buy, the seller may pay me commission, at no cost to you. Commission never changes what's listed or the order.
A price is the seller's lowest for one ticket (or one person, when two book a tour together), as its feed gives it, and I've checked on each seller's own pages what it covers. See Tickets's includes its booking fee, and it adds an order fee to each booking (£1.25 to £4 on the events I checked), which I show beside the price. Where I haven't checked what a seller's price covers, or its feed is more than a day and a half old, I show no price at all.
I don't list resold tickets for football in England and Wales, or for any match in a UEFA or FIFA competition: selling or advertising them without the organiser's permission is a crime (section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994). Times are UK times. Events change and sell out, so the seller's page is the final word.
