Is it a real deal?

Found something on sale? Paste its link, type its barcode or search its name, and I'll show what it's cost since I started recording, whether today's price is really low, and where it's cheapest.

A link to the product's page at a shop I track, the barcode's digits (8 to 14 of them), or a few words of its name.

Got a photo of it instead? Photo search finds products from a picture, and reads a barcode in one.

How I check

I read each shop's product feed twice a day and record every price change, with when I saw it. A product with options (sizes, colours) is priced at its cheapest. Its record runs from the first time I saw it, and my records start on 9 October 2026.

The verdict is the one my Black Friday price check uses. "Lowest we've recorded" means today's price matches or beats every price in the record. "Close to its lowest" means it was cheaper, but by less than 5% or £1, the smallest change my price-drop emails count. "Was cheaper" gives the date and the price. A product whose price hasn't moved says so.

A link is matched to a product by its page address, here on the server; I never fetch the shop's page, and I don't save the link or the barcode. They stay in this page's address, so you can share the answer, and my page stats see that address only if you've allowed Stats cookies. Links to shops are marked Ad: I may earn a commission when you buy, at no cost to you, and it never changes the verdict or which shop shows first. Other shops are listed by price alone.

For what's just got cheaper everywhere I track, see price drops.

Questions

How do I know if a sale price is a real deal?

Compare it with what the product actually sold for before, not with the "was" price beside it. If today's price is the lowest it's been, it's a real drop; if it was cheaper a few weeks ago, the sale price isn't the bargain it looks. I check against the prices I've recorded myself, never the shop's own was-price or RRP.

Do prices go up before Black Friday?

Some do. My Black Friday price check counts, from the same records, how many products rose and fell in the 30 days before the sale, shop by shop, and once the sale opens, how many sale prices are really the lowest we've recorded.

Which shops can I check?

The shops whose products I list in the product marketplace. A link to any other shop says so and names the ones I track, and searching by name or barcode looks at all of them.

How does the barcode search work?

The number under a barcode (EAN or UPC) identifies the product itself, so every shop's listing of it carries the same one. That finds the product at each shop I track that lists it, cheapest first. Its last digit is a check digit worked out from the others, so a mistyped number usually shows up as invalid.

Can it tell me when the price drops?

Yes: watch the price and I'll email you when it falls by at least 5% and £1.

Why does it say the lowest "we've recorded", not the lowest ever?

Because the record is ours, and it started on 9 October 2026. A product's history goes back to the first time I saw it priced, at the most to then, so the answer says from when.
