About it

From Lovetovisit's listing

The Great and The Small Alf Wight was born to humble beginnings in Sunderland and grew up in Glasgow. However, the place he is most associated with is 'Skeldale House' in Thirsk, where he spent the great majority of his adult life and penned most of his famous works. Still operating as a veterinary surgeon, he only began writing at aged 50 and published his first story, If Only They Could Talk in 1970. Not being allowed to advertise as a vet, Wight needed a pseudonym. After watching Birmingham City take on Manchester United in the FA Cup, he was impressed by the performance (and the name) of Scottish goalkeeper, Jim Herriot. And so, a soon-to-be legendary name was created. From Thirsk to Darrowby Herriot's stories were based around a vet who moved to the fictional Yorkshire village of Darrowby. Engaging in endearing animal misadventures, the stories told were recounts of Herriot's early years as a veterinary surgeon. It was this heart-warming and earnest approach to writing that led to the books' success, which in turn led to adaptations under the title most associated with the works of Herriot, All Creatures Great and Small. Following a 1975 film starring Anthony Hopkins, a hugely successful BBC show would begin in 1978 and would run for 12 years, becoming a worldwide hit in the process. It also led to an acclaimed remake arriving in 2021, showing that Herriot's legacy is still as strong as ever today.…

How I list these

Everything here comes from the feeds of the ticket and experience sellers I work with: Lovetovisit. That's a lot, but it isn't everything on in Harrogate: venues that sell their own tickets, or sell through sellers whose feeds don't reach me, won't show here yet.

Events are in date order, and a show on several dates appears once, on its first, with how many more there are. Things to do any day start with the seller's own UK picks, then those rated 4.5 or more, guided before self-guided, shared before private, then by rating and price. Every ticket link is an ad: if you buy, the seller may pay me commission, at no cost to you. Commission never changes what's listed or the order.

A price is the seller's lowest for one ticket (or one person, when two book a tour together), as its feed gives it, and I've checked on each seller's own pages what it covers. Where I haven't checked what a seller's price covers, or its feed is more than a day and a half old, I show no price at all.

I don't list resold tickets for football in England and Wales, or for any match in a UEFA or FIFA competition: selling or advertising them without the organiser's permission is a crime (section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994). Times are UK times. Events change and sell out, so the seller's page is the final word.
