About the event

From See Tickets's listing

PROGRAMME Mozart - Overture to The Marriage of FigaroVaughan Williams - The Lark AscendingVivaldi - The Four Seasons ABOUT Experience breathtaking music by some of classical music's greatest composers, performed by some of the country's finest classical musicians, all presented in stunning candlelight. At the heart of the concert is Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, the most recorded work in classical music and a defining showpiece for solo violin. Each concerto depicts a different season, shaped by accompanying poems - possibly written by Vivaldi himself. Across the four concertos, Vivaldi transforms the natural world into vivid musical scenes, evoking birdsong and buzzing flies, harvest celebrations, drunken revellers, barking dogs, summer storms and winter ice. Alongside this, Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending, composed on the eve of the First World War, offers a more reflective perspective. Inspired by George Meredith's poem, it captures a pastoral world on the brink of change, its soaring violin line suggesting a lark gliding high above the mechanised world below, "lost on his aerial rings / In light, and then the fancy sings." Opening the programme we have Mozart's Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, an opera drawn from Beaumarchais' recently banned comedy, in which a philandering count attempts to seduce his servant's fiancée, only to be outmanoeuvred by the servants and his own long-suffering wife.…

How I list these

Everything here comes from the feeds of the ticket and experience sellers I work with: See Tickets. That's a lot, but it isn't everything on in Portsmouth: venues that sell their own tickets, or sell through sellers whose feeds don't reach me, won't show here yet.

Events are in date order, and a show on several dates appears once, on its first, with how many more there are. Things to do any day start with the seller's own UK picks, then those rated 4.5 or more, guided before self-guided, shared before private, then by rating and price. Every ticket link is an ad: if you buy, the seller may pay me commission, at no cost to you. Commission never changes what's listed or the order.

A price is the seller's lowest for one ticket (or one person, when two book a tour together), as its feed gives it, and I've checked on each seller's own pages what it covers. See Tickets's includes its booking fee, and it adds an order fee to each booking (£1.25 to £4 on the events I checked), which I show beside the price. Where I haven't checked what a seller's price covers, or its feed is more than a day and a half old, I show no price at all.

I don't list resold tickets for football in England and Wales, or for any match in a UEFA or FIFA competition: selling or advertising them without the organiser's permission is a crime (section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994). Times are UK times. Events change and sell out, so the seller's page is the final word.
