Zen Hotels: what to know before you buy
The site
ZenHotels is a hotel reservation service that lists hotels, hostels, apartments, villas and campgrounds worldwide, plus airport transfers. It is operated by Leaside Services Limited from Cyprus, and is part of the Emerging Travel Group, which also runs RateHawk for travel agents.
Booking
ZenHotels is a booking platform, not the hotel. It handles the reservation and payment, and once the hotel confirms, the contract for your stay is between you and the hotel.
Paying
You can pay online by card or PayPal, or pay the hotel directly at check-in or check-out. The app also takes Apple Pay and Android Pay. Some hotels ask for card details to guarantee a pay-at-hotel booking. Its terms say ZenHotels itself charges no booking fee, though local tourist taxes can be added at the hotel and your bank may apply its own exchange rate.
Saving
The site says its app shows lower prices than the website, plus app-only offers. Its promo codes work in the iOS and Android app on prepaid bookings, one per booking, and can be withdrawn at any time. A newsletter and a travel deals page are also linked from the site. Pay-at-hotel rates keep your money in your account until the stay, but promo codes don't apply to them.
The app also keeps your booking vouchers in your account, even offline, which is handy when you are travelling.
Cancelling
There is no single cancellation rule. Each hotel sets its own policy, shown when you book and on your booking voucher. Any refund is what you paid less whatever the hotel deducts, and it goes back to the card or account you used.
Support
ZenHotels offers round-the-clock support through its website and app, plus a Help Center. As it is not a UK business, formal complaints go by written claim and disputes fall under Cypriot law.
