Is Gousto worth it?
Our note
On 24 October, All Subscription Boxes UK reported that Gousto's introductory discount now ends after the sixth box rather than the eighth. Gousto's own prices page describes savings across the first 6 boxes. That shorter offer matters when judging what a recipe box costs beyond its first delivery.
Gousto delivers recipe boxes with a choice of meals each week. Its box prices page says five recipes for two people are usually £46.50 per order, or £4.65 a portion. Gousto's price guide puts delivery at £3.99, with possible surcharges. The listed introductory offer gives new customers 50% off the first box with free delivery, then 40% off the second and 20% off the next four. You can skip a week or cancel at no cost.
I would set the usual box and delivery charge beside what I actually spend on ingredients for the same meals, including anything thrown away. Smaller boxes cost more per plate. The discount makes the early deliveries a different calculation from the usual price that starts with the seventh box.
