Barking Heads: what to know before you buy

What does Barking Heads sell?

Dry and wet food for dogs, plus the Meowing Heads range for cats. The dog range centres on the All Hounder dry recipes: Bowl Lickin' Goodness (chicken or lamb), Hair Necessities (salmon), Tummy Loving Care (fish), Fuss Pot (duck), Fat Dog Slim (a light recipe) and Golden Years for older dogs, with Puppy Days for puppies, Little Paws bags for small breeds and Big Foot bags for large breeds.

In October 2026 most All Hounder recipes had an RRP of £14.99 for 2kg and £64.99 for 12kg, though several sold for less (2kg of Bowl Lickin' Goodness chicken was £11.88). Wet dog food comes in 300g portions at £24 for ten. Meowing Heads dry recipes, from Smitten Kitten to Senior Moments, cost around £21 for 1.5kg, and its wet food (93% meat and grain-free, the brand says) comes in 100g portions in packs of 10 to 60.

What goes into the food?

The brand says its recipes are at least 50% meat or fish, with no added artificial colours or flavourings. On the Bowl Lickin' Goodness chicken label, chicken is 50% of the recipe (31% fresh free-run chicken, plus dried chicken, gravy and fat), followed by rice at 26%, oats and peas. Bowl Lickin' Goodness, Fat Dog Slim and Golden Years dry food include grains, while the Hair Necessities, Tummy Loving Care and Fuss Pot dry recipes and all the wet dog food are grain-free, so owners avoiding grains still have a choice.

Barking Heads says its dry food is made in its own Yorkshire factory, which it describes as carbon negative, and that the dry food bags can be recycled at larger supermarkets. The brand dates from 2008, when three pet food colleagues set it up, and has belonged to IPN, the group behind Harringtons and Wagg, since 2021.

How do Barking Heads subscriptions work?

Dry food bags and wet packs are 20% off RRP on subscription, bundles and multi-buys take 5% off RRP on top of their bundle saving, and new subscribers get a larger one-off discount on their first subscription order. Each product is a separate subscription, set to arrive every 4 to 12 weeks at first and adjustable afterwards to any interval. Orders can be skipped, moved, paused or cancelled online with no minimum term, and a reminder email arrives a week before each one.

How do delivery and returns work?

Orders go by DPD tracked parcel, with next-day delivery seven days a week across mainland Great Britain and the Scottish islands for orders placed by 7pm Monday to Friday or 2pm at weekends, though the brand calls this best effort rather than guaranteed. A new customer's first order ships free; after that, delivery is free over £40 and £4.99 below it. Remote parts of Scotland and the Isles of Scilly take two to five working days; there's no delivery to Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

Returns follow the 14-day cancellation right. Items have to come back unused and in their original packaging, perishable products and anything with a broken seal are excluded, and the customer pays return postage unless the item is faulty or misdescribed. Refunds go to the original payment method within 14 days of the return arriving. So an opened bag a dog won't eat can't go back, which makes a 2kg bag the cheaper way to try a recipe.

How can you pay less at Barking Heads?

Beyond the codes and deals listed on this page, the site has standing savings of its own:

  • Subscriptions: 20% off RRP on bags and wet packs, more on the first subscription order.
  • Free delivery: on a new customer's first order, then over £40.
  • Bigger bags: at RRP, 12kg works out at about £5.42 a kilo against £7.50 for 2kg.
  • Bundles: in October 2026 dry food bundles were 12% off and dry and wet combos 10% off.
  • Barking Rewards: 50 points for opening an account, then 2 points per £1 at Bronze rising to 8 at VIP (£1,000 or more spent). The refer-a-friend page values 1,500 points at a £15 voucher.
  • Refer a friend: the friend gets 40% off and free delivery on a first order, and the referrer gets 1,500 points.

What do customers say about Barking Heads?

Barking Heads scored 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 6,999 reviews in October 2026, with 84% of them five stars. Reviewers mostly praise how readily their dogs and cats eat the food (fussy eaters included), quick delivery and easy subscription changes. The complaints centre on DPD drivers leaving heavy boxes in the wrong place, a subscription order held back when an item went out of stock, and the price, which one reviewer can only manage with vouchers.
