Gardenesque: what to know before you buy
Choosing the right pot for your plants
The pots here are sized and styled for mature planting, so it helps to measure the root ball of what you intend to plant before you pick a size. The brand describes its large pots as frostproof and generously proportioned, which suits autumn bulb planting and repotting trees. Wheeled options are worth considering for heavy pots you may need to move, as one reviewer noted when using a wheeled pot for a tree.
Garden furniture and delivery
Larger furniture is shipped differently from smaller items. Indoor pots and benches go by standard courier, while large and fragile pieces are palletised for kerbside delivery. Garden furniture sets can carry a separate two-person delivery charge if you want them brought into a room of your choice. Check the delivery option at checkout, since a set may cost more to deliver than the price suggests.
Inspect on arrival
Fragile goods should be checked before you sign for them. The delivery information asks you to note any damage at the door and refuse goods that are damaged. Because some pieces are handmade, slight variations in finish are normal, so it is worth knowing this before you judge the colour or texture.
Returns and cancellations
Returns are not free for non-faulty items. Collection charges depend on the courier and the weight of the parcel, and pallet collections can be considerably more. Cancelling before dispatch avoids these costs, while cancelling after shipping is treated as a return. Keep the original packaging, as items must be returned in it.

Gardening Direct
Gardening Direct is a mail-order supplier of garden plants, bulbs and seasonal stock, run from its own nursery in Lincolnshire. It is aimed at shoppers who want live plants delivered to their door rather than collected from a local centre, with plenty of guidance for less experienced gardeners.
Gardenista
Gardenista sells outdoor cushions, seat pads and water-resistant covers for garden furniture, from rattan sets and sun lounger cushions to chair pads with ties. Its pages describe made-to-order production in Birmingham, so checking sizing and colour before ordering is worth the time.
Greenera
Greenera sells garden supplies for growing, looking after and enjoying outdoor space, from hose reels and raised beds to garden edging and outdoor furniture. The range is split into Grow, Care and Enjoy, which makes it easier to find what you need for a particular job in the garden.

Mint Outdoor
Mint Outdoor sells rattan and aluminium garden sofas, corner sets and dining sets, with many ranges made to order rather than stocked in a warehouse. The practical questions for UK buyers are delivery timing, which postcodes are excluded, assembly costs and how returns work for large, heavy pieces.
Selections
Selections is a UK garden and outdoor living retailer, with a range that runs from raised beds and planters to garden furniture covers and bird feeders. Its homepage also points to homeware and household storage. The useful way in is to start from the job: a plot to fill, a wildlife space to support, or a bulky outdoor item to protect.
