Music Magpie: what to know before you buy
Comparing refurbished phones and tech
The homepage promotes refurbished phones, refurbished iPhones, refurbished Samsung phones, refurbished iPads and cheap phones, so the store works well for buyers who want a second-hand device. Check the model name and storage capacity on each listing, since the homepage lists many generations of iPhone, Galaxy S and Pixel models that vary considerably in specification.
Trading in your old devices
The site also runs a trade-in service covering phones, tablets, smartwatches, laptops, desktop computers and consoles. Before you send anything, use the free instant valuation to see what your device is worth. Items can be posted in or, for phones, taken to a participating Timpson store.
Games, media and books
If you collect physical media, the store also takes CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, console games and books for sale or trade-in. Scanning barcodes with the store's free app is one way to start a trade-in for these items.
Choosing between buying and trading in
If you want to upgrade, a trade-in can offset part of the cost of a new listing, but compare the valuation with what similar listings sell for before deciding. Buyers should focus on the model, condition and included accessories rather than headline promotions.

ESR
ESR makes cases, screen protectors, magnetic chargers and keyboard cases, mostly for iPhone and iPad, and sells them through its own UK store. In October 2026 an iPhone 18 Pro Max magnetic case started at about £14 and a three-pack of screen protectors at about £12. UK delivery costs £6 or nothing over £45, returns are accepted for 30 days, and a free ESR account brings a 15% welcome discount.
Otterbox
OtterBox is best known for rugged phone cases, but its range now runs from Defender and Symmetry cases to screen protectors, power products and waterproof Frē models. The choice mostly comes down to how much protection you need, how thick you can tolerate, and whether you want a waterproof design.
Carphone Warehouse
Carphone Warehouse is a mobile phone retailer where you can pick up the latest handsets on pay monthly contracts, through upgrades, or on pay as you go. It also stocks a broad range of accessories and tablets, so it suits shoppers who want a phone and its extras in one place.
Clove Technology
Clove Technology sells new and refurbished smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and accessories from major brands. Its refurbished range, including Fairphone, iPhone and Galaxy models, suits shoppers who want a current device for less. The site also runs a trade-in scheme for older handsets.
Envirofone Shop
Envirofone sells refurbished phones, tablets and laptops that are tested and graded before listing, with a 12-month warranty on handsets. It suits shoppers who want a used device with a clear warranty and returns route rather than a private sale, though accessory and battery cover is shorter.
Envirofone Trade In
Envirofone buys phones, tablets, watches, consoles and laptops for cash, including broken ones, and also sells tested refurbished devices. The main decision is whether to sell your old device direct or to buy a refurbished one that carries a warranty and return window.
Fairphone
Fairphone sells modular smartphones built around replaceable parts, along with cases, audio gear and accessories. It suits buyers who want a phone they can repair and keep for longer, rather than replace when a battery fades.
MF Traders
Mobile Direct sells mobile phones, accessories, tablets and games online, with a focus on refurbished handsets. Its policies cover next-day delivery, a 45-day return window and a 20% deduction for faulty-listed returns, so read the terms before you buy.
