Mostly paper and the tools for writing on it: Papersmiths' own pens, notebooks and diaries, alongside stationery, books and cards from other makers. The own range started in 2021, according to its About page. Prices in October 2026:
Greetings cards run from £3.75 to £15, with most between £4.50 and £5.75.
For people who fill notebooks rather than collect them, the own-brand prices come down to materials, which the product pages spell out. The Clifton notebooks and 2027 diaries are casebound by what Papersmiths calls a century-old bindery about 40 miles from its Chelsea shop, with cloth covers and 100gsm paper. The trade-off is availability: runs are small, and several own-brand lines, including some Primo Pen colours, showed as sold out with a notify button in October 2026.
Customers rate the service well. Papersmiths scored 4.8 out of 5 from 118 Trustpilot reviews in October 2026, with reviewers mostly praising quick delivery, careful packaging and handwritten thank-you notes. The one recent one-star review (December 2025) came from a customer whose order hadn't arrived after a month, and Trustpilot notes the company hasn't replied to negative reviews.
UK orders go by Royal Mail Tracked 48 for £3.95, free over £40, and usually take two to three working days. DPD next-day delivery costs £7.95, free over £100; DPD orders placed before noon on a weekday leave the same day, and nothing is dispatched between Friday noon and Monday 9am. Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Scottish Highlands get the Royal Mail service at the same price and threshold, and click and collect at the Brighton shop is free, usually ready the same day.
Overseas delivery is limited. Shipping to Europe has been paused since 10 December 2024, which Papersmiths puts down to the EU's GPSR product safety rules, and orders to the US and Canada are suspended. Other countries go by Royal Mail International from £12, with any import charges paid by the buyer.
The returns window is short. Online buyers email Papersmiths within 14 days of receiving an order, then post the item back unused and in its original packaging at their own cost. Personalised items and gift cards can't be returned, and the refund policy says sale items can't be refunded or exchanged. Approved refunds reach the original payment method within 10 working days. For Christmas 2025, purchases made from 1 November to 24 December could be returned until 31 January 2026.
Yes, there are two: 21 Sydney Street in Brighton's North Laine and 170 Pavilion Road in Chelsea. Brighton opens 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday; Chelsea opens 9am to 7pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday. The shops host brand events, and in October 2026 Chelsea is running a Kaweco Sport build-your-own fountain pen event (1 to 20 October, £30 a pen) followed by a School of Life pop-up from 19 October. Papersmiths began in 2013; press coverage from 2018 names Sidonie Warren and Kyle Clarke as the pair behind it and lists earlier shops in Bristol and Shoreditch.
The free-delivery line and the sale do most of the work, alongside the codes and deals listed on this page. A Clifton notebook and an Everyday Pen together come to £41.50, enough to clear the £40 threshold and save the £3.95 postage. The sale section, called the Stationery Archive Sale in October 2026, had cuts of up to 40% on books, cards and journals, and planners drop once their year is under way: the 2026-27 Academic Diary was £20, down from £40. Sale buys can't be refunded or exchanged, so they suit people sure of what they want. Brighton shoppers avoid postage with click and collect, gift vouchers start at £5 as a posted card or a digital voucher, and gift wrapping is £5.

Yes, on UK orders over £40 sent by Royal Mail Tracked 48, which otherwise costs £3.95. DPD next-day delivery is £7.95, or free over £100.
Not at the moment. Papersmiths paused shipping to Europe on 10 December 2024 because of the EU's GPSR product safety rules, and US and Canada orders are suspended too; other countries go by Royal Mail International from £12.
No. The refund policy says sale items can't be refunded or exchanged; other unused items can go back within 14 days of receipt, with the buyer paying the return postage.
There are two: 21 Sydney Street, Brighton BN1 4EN, and 170 Pavilion Road, Chelsea, London SW1X 0AW. The Brighton shop also handles free click and collect for online orders.
Papersmiths says the 100gsm FSC-certified paper in its Clifton notebooks and 2027 diary is fountain pen friendly. Both are A5 hardbacks bound in South East England.
