What I'd check first
When I'm buying a PC game, I check three places before paying full price on Steam: the authorised key sellers (Green Man Gaming, Fanatical, Gamesplanet), Epic if it's sold there, and whether a bundle includes it. Authorised sellers regularly beat the platform price on new releases, and their own voucher codes stack on top more often than you'd think.
The details that trip people up are activation platform and region. A key might redeem on Steam, the publisher's own launcher or the Microsoft Store, and some are locked to a region. The product page tells you, and it's worth ten seconds to check.
Marketplaces like G2A can be cheaper again, but that's because independent sellers set the prices. I'd only use one if I was comfortable with that seller's rating and the refund route, and I'd skip any optional add-ons at checkout that I didn't choose deliberately.
Read before you shop
