The energy price cap, region by region

The most a supplier can charge for each kWh and each day on a standard variable tariff from 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026, in each of Great Britain's 14 regions, as Ofgem set it.

1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026

A typical home paying by Direct Debit pays £1,723 a year across Great Britain. Electricity has no VAT from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027; gas has 5%. Pence per kWh and per day, VAT included. The last column is a year for 2,500 kWh of electricity and 9,500 kWh of gas.

How Ofgem sets it

Every three months Ofgem works out what it costs a supplier to buy energy, use the networks, run its business and pay for government schemes, region by region, then caps each unit rate and standing charge at that level. It announces each cap about five weeks before it starts, and suppliers' standard variable tariffs follow it.

It's a cap on the rates, not on the bill: use more and you pay more. Economy 7 is capped as one average rate across Ofgem's 58% day and 42% night split, so suppliers set their own day and night rates under it. Compare tariffs against it for your home.
