How much do you use?

Ofgem's figures for homes that use less, about the middle, and more than most. Your own kWh give a truer answer.

What are you on now?

Most homes are. If you've never chosen a tariff, or your fix has ended, you're on it.

Your meter, car and heating, and your supplier (optional)
Do you have any of these?

Some tariffs are only for homes with one. I show those only when you say you have it.

Your supplier's new deals are open to you too, so I'll point them out.

How I rank, and how I make money

Cheapest first, on the estimate for your home, with ties in supplier then tariff name order. Commission never changes who's listed or the order. A link marked Ad may earn me commission if you switch through it; every other link goes straight to the supplier and earns nothing.

Suppliers that pay me now: none of them.

What I compare

I compare the tariffs Octopus Energy, EnergyCoop, London Power, E.ON Next, Sainsbury's Energy, EDF and Good Energy publish openly. British Gas, OVO Energy, ScottishPower, So Energy, Utilita and other suppliers don't publish theirs in a form I can use, so they aren't here. The price cap is the most any supplier can charge on a standard variable tariff.

Before you switch

  • Staying put can be the deal. Ofgem's rules stop suppliers keeping a tariff for new customers only, so your own supplier's deals are open to you too. Ask yours what it offers before you move.
  • Warm Home Discount. If you get it, check the new supplier offers it before you switch: not every supplier does, and you could lose it for this winter. About the Warm Home Discount
  • Money owed. Pay by Direct Debit or by bill and owe your supplier money for more than 28 days? It can stop you switching until it's paid. On prepayment you can usually switch owing up to £500, which moves to the new supplier.
  • Exit fees. Leaving a fix early can cost a fee per fuel. In the last 49 days of a fixed tariff there's none to pay.
