Is Audible worth it?
Our note
On 21 October, Alston & Bird reported that the government had laid draft subscription regulations before Parliament on 19 October. If Parliament approves them, from 1 January 2027 a reminder will generally be required before the first payment after a free or discounted period. Audible plans renew automatically after a 30-day free trial, so that first charge matters when considering membership.
Audible's UK membership page lists Standard at £5.99 a month and Premium at £8.99 a month after the trial. Standard lets you choose one audiobook a month to listen to while you remain a member; you lose access when you leave. Premium gives one credit a month to buy an audiobook you keep, as well as streaming from its catalogue.
There are annual Premium plans at £69.99 for 12 credits and £109.99 for 24. I would compare the cost per credit with the price of books I would actually choose. Unused credits roll over up to a maximum of six, some expire, and credits left when you cancel are lost. Books bought with credits remain yours.
