If I'd had to pick which old Resident Evil Capcom should rebuild next, Code: Veronica would have been near the top of my list. So, good news. Resident Evil Veronica is a full remake, coming to Steam and current consoles in 2027. That's the whole date. Capcom hasn't announced the day, the UK price, the editions or the PC requirements.
So my advice is boring but right: wishlist it if Rockfort Island has its hooks in you, and don't hand money to anyone selling an unofficial PC "preorder".
Capcom's announcement confirms Claire Redfield, a reworked story, modern play and a Steam release. The original game is great context, but nobody should be selling you its scenes and systems as guaranteed features of the remake.
What does the trailer actually tell us?
It opens after Raccoon City, with Claire looking for Chris and getting hauled off to Rockfort Island. You get the prison setting, Umbrella lurking about, and an over-the-shoulder survival-horror look. What you don't get is every playable character, how the campaign is split, or any of the puzzles from the finished game.
It's a cinematic, tightly cut trailer, and it looks the part. Judge the atmosphere, the characters and the visual direction from it by all means. But for controls, enemy behaviour and performance, I'd wait for some uncut gameplay.
Is it Code: Veronica or Resident Evil Veronica?
The original was Resident Evil Code: Veronica. The remake is Resident Evil Veronica in English, and Biohazard RE:Veronica in Japan. Search results and shops will probably use both names for a while until the listings settle down.
Before you click buy on anything, make sure the product page says it's the 2027 remake, names the right platform and lists Capcom as publisher. An old Dreamcast version or one of the later ports is not the new game, even if some marketplace listing has nicked the remake artwork for its thumbnail.
Do I need to have played the earlier games?
The story follows Claire after Resident Evil 2 and is about her trying to find Chris. Resident Evil 2 is the best introduction to Claire and what happened in Raccoon City. Knowing the rest of the series helps, but it's not an entry fee.
If you want one bit of homework, play Resident Evil 2 before Veronica. And if you're tempted by a franchise bundle, check it's got the modern remake in it and not a classic version with a similar name.
How different could it be from the original?
Potentially very. Capcom says the remake keeps what made the original appealing while rebuilding the story, graphics and gameplay as a modern survival-horror game. That's wording with a lot of room in it. The camera, controls, where items are, the boss fights, the characters' writing and the order things happen in might not match any walkthrough written for the 2000 release.
The original swapped you between playable characters and made your long-term inventory choices unusually important. That's why fans still talk about it. It's not confirmation that the remake will keep every one of those consequences. Any video promising a "complete feature list" is guessing unless it points to new Capcom material.
When will we get a proper release date?
Capcom has only said 2027. If a shop lists 31 December, that's a placeholder, not an announcement. We'll update the 2027 PC calendar once Capcom puts a day out through its own site, investor material or verified store pages.
Until there's a day, price comparisons are a bit pointless too. You can't spot a good deal without knowing the edition, the activation platform, the region and the final checkout total.
What do PC players still need to know?
Basically everything that decides whether it'll run well on your machine:
- minimum and recommended CPU/GPU specifications;
- target resolution and frame-rate for those specifications;
- installation size and SSD requirement;
- ultrawide, HDR and upscaling support;
- shader compilation and traversal behaviour;
- Steam Deck compatibility;
- DRM and launcher requirements.
Please don't guess them from another RE Engine game. Same engine doesn't mean same demands, same settings or the same launch-week problems.
What's confirmed and what's just fans hoping?
With an announced remake, it's really easy for an old plot summary, someone's trailer breakdown and a shop's placeholder page to merge into something that sounds certain. So here's where things stand.

This matters when you're about to spend money. A shop is allowed to open a placeholder page before everything's final, but its made-up date and copy-pasted feature list aren't coming from Capcom.
How should you pick an edition when orders open?
Start from the standard edition and make every upgrade earn its extra cost. Separate actual story content from costumes, consumables, weapon packs, soundtracks and digital art. If something's described only as an "early unlock", find out whether you can earn it in the game anyway.
In a horror game, bonus items can make the opening easier even when they're not exclusive. If you want the proper "I have two bullets and a prayer" experience, you might be better off not switching them on. Also check whether a soundtrack comes as normal audio files or only through some in-game player.
Compare like with like. A standard Steam key isn't the same thing as a deluxe console disc, and a retailer-exclusive outfit isn't automatically worth giving up a clearer refund route.
Where should you buy it on PC?
Steam is confirmed, but there's no UK edition or price to compare yet. When authorised retailers open orders, compare the same Steam key in the same edition. Check whether preorder bonuses are cosmetic, consumable or exclusive playable content.

Should you buy the original now?
Only if you're curious about the history. It'll show you why Rockfort Island, the Ashfords and the Redfield story matter to people, but the remake is openly rebuilding the whole thing, so it's not a dress rehearsal.
If you mostly want a modern game to play before 2027, Resident Evil 2 is the better introduction to Claire. When franchise sales come round, check the edition contents: "complete" usually means one game plus its DLC, not the whole series.
