Gray-Nicolls: what to know before you buy

What does Gray-Nicolls sell?

Gray-Nicolls sells its own cricket equipment: bats, batting pads and gloves, helmets and other protection, wicketkeeping gloves, cricket shoes, clothing and kit bags. Its bats are grouped into families, each with its own shape and look, and most come in adult and junior sizes, with a separate women's range. Clubs can design their teamwear with it too. For other team sports, Canterbury of New Zealand covers rugby kit and Mitre footballs, and every shop in our sports and outdoors list is on one page.

How are Gray-Nicolls bats made?

Gray-Nicolls grows its own willow, so it controls each bat from the tree onwards. The willow is felled on its plantations and taken to its factory in Robertsbridge, East Sussex, and its bat makers craft bats by hand there and in its factories in Australia and India. Bats arrive pre-prepared but not knocked in, and Gray-Nicolls advises knocking a new bat in before match use. Bat size goes by height rather than age, and its size guide covers junior, Harrow and adult sizes. On some bats you can ask for a particular weight, subject to stock.

How does delivery work?

UK orders go by tracked courier, usually UPS or DPD, and each product page counts down to the next dispatch. Bats are sent from the Robertsbridge factory and everything else from its warehouse in Hastings. Orders with bats, personalised items or club-embroidered clothing take longer to prepare. Delivery costs are shown at checkout and on its delivery page. It also ships to Europe, North America and the rest of the world, and outside the UK and EU any import duties and taxes are paid to the carrier.

Can I return or repair Gray-Nicolls kit?

Yes. UK orders can be returned through its self-service returns tool, with a prepaid UPS label or a courier of your choice, and the same tool handles fault claims. Items must be unused, with their tags and packaging, and personalised items can only be returned if faulty or if the personalisation is wrong. There are no exchanges, so you get a refund and reorder. For a damaged bat, its bat makers in Robertsbridge repair cracks, edges and toes, replace handles and refurbish blades, with options and prices in its online repair tool.

How do I save at Gray-Nicolls?

The codes listed here are ones Gray-Nicolls supplies through its affiliate programme, and you enter them at its checkout. Its site accepts one voucher per order. Its loyalty scheme is free to join and earns points on what you spend, which turn into money-off vouchers for later orders. Klarna's pay in three is offered at checkout on larger orders.
