How to pay less for a GTA 6 pre-order in the UK

GTA VI can cost £60.85 on PS5 even though Sony asks £69.99 for the download. In October 2026, the saving came from a discounted £70 UK PlayStation gift card, which you spend at the PlayStation Store. I'd take that route on PS5. On Xbox, the £64.99 boxed code is the better deal.

Grand Theft Auto VI is Rockstar's single-player return to Vice City, due on Thursday 19 November 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The store price

Both consoles start from the same price. In October 2026, the Standard Edition is £69.99 and the Ultimate Edition £89.99 on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. Both include the full game. The difference between them is in-game extras, which matters more than the word “Ultimate”.

Every pre-order and purchase before 20 November gets the Vintage Vice City Pack: a two-tone '55 Vapid Stanier with a garage, plus outfits and hairstyles for Jason and Lucia. Digital pre-orders can pre-load from 12 November, and the game unlocks on PlayStation at 00:00 GMT on 19 November.

Digital pre-orders also get a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's GTA Online membership. It gives your online character GTA$500,000 a month and access to a library of older Rockstar games, but adds nothing to GTA VI's story. On PlayStation, you have until 31 March 2027 to claim the month; Xbox gives you 180 days from the pre-order. After the free month, the membership renews at the regular monthly price until you cancel.

The PS5 card saving

A PlayStation gift card becomes wallet credit, and the store uses wallet funds first. In October 2026, that let a card bought below face value pay for the £69.99 Standard Edition. You're still buying from the PlayStation Store, so the pre-load and Sony's GTA+ offer for digital editions bought there by 19 November still apply.

The gift card comparison tracks the lowest UK price for each PlayStation Store card. The sizes that suit GTA VI were all cheapest at ShopTo:

At £60.85, the £70 card pays for Standard with a penny left. One ShopTo listing calls itself a "GTA VI PS5 digital code", but the £60.85 buys a £70 gift card code to spend on the game. Elsewhere on the £70 card comparison, CJS CD Keys was £67.73 and Kinguin £62.70 before Kinguin's fees.

The catch is where that money goes. A UK voucher needs a UK account, and funds added to the wallet can't be refunded. The game pre-order has different terms: if you pay more than 14 days before release, you can cancel until launch unless pre-loading has started. I'd only buy the card once I was comfortable keeping that credit in PlayStation. The same method works for memberships in our cheap PS Plus guide.

Is Ultimate worth another £20?

Ultimate is digital only. Its extras include the '95 Grotti Cheetah, a Classic Car Collection, Hawk & Little Morgan revolvers, vehicles for Jason's safehouse, and businesses including Sara's Unisex Salon, One-Eyed Willie's Mod Shop and the Stock 305 Clothing Store. Standard already has the full game, so I'd only pay more if those cars and businesses are the point for you.

In October 2026, a £70 card and a £20 card from ShopTo cost £79.70 together. That's £90 of credit for Ultimate at £89.99, leaving a penny. One £100 card cost £85.85, but would leave £10.01 in the wallet. A UK Ultimate key from CJS CD Keys was £82.53, more than the two-card route.

Xbox lets you buy Standard first and add the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately for £20.00. The PlayStation Store had no such upgrade on sale in late October 2026, and Sony's GTA+ offer doesn't cover one. If you're weighing the extras against Standard, where do you land?

A box without a disc

The physical edition has no disc: a download code comes in the box, which goes on sale from 12 November, so it can still be pre-loaded. Delivery decides whether that benefit is real. These were the shops' prices and delivery promises on 26 October 2026:

Amazon and GAME shared the lowest boxed price and both offered delivery from 12 November. Amazon's Pre-order Price Guarantee applies to items Amazon.co.uk sells itself: you pay its lowest price between ordering and the end of release day. Currys matches £64.99, but delivery on 19 November rules out a pre-load. ShopTo's Release Compensate offers a £5 voucher if a qualifying tracked pre-order arrives late. Argos excludes GTA VI from its 30-day money back guarantee.

EE lets eligible mobile customers spread its £68 as £13 today and £5 a month for 11 months, with no interest. A boxed copy still gets the Vintage Vice City Pack. The free GTA+ month is for digital pre-orders only; since it's a GTA Online membership, I wouldn't pay more for digital just to get it.

The Xbox route

Xbox has no equivalent card saving. In October 2026, Xbox cards on our gift cards page sold at or near face value: a £70 card cost £70.00 at ShopTo. I'd take the £64.99 boxed code instead, the lowest UK-copy price here and £5 below the Xbox Store's £69.99.

The alternative keys don't change that call. A UK Xbox key from CJS CD Keys was £66.50, delivered by the end of release day, so a pre-load isn't assured. Its £60.39 headline price was for an Argentinian key that the listing says works after activation through an Argentina VPN. I wouldn't put £60 into that workaround. What if you need a console too?

In late October 2026, neither Sony nor Microsoft sold an official GTA VI console bundle. EE's own pairings put GTA VI with a PS5 Slim Digital Edition for £573 or a Disc version for £623, each advertised as saving £14.99. Both were out of stock.

My pre-order choice

For PS5, I favour the £70 UK card from ShopTo and Standard on the PlayStation Store before 12 November, ready for the pre-load. At £60.85 in October 2026, that was £9.14 below the store price and kept the launch extras, provided the card matches your account and you're happy to commit the wallet credit.

For Xbox, I'd choose the £64.99 boxed code from Amazon for its price guarantee, or GAME at the same price.
