It scores 4.9 on Product Hunt from 55 reviews and 4.9 on G2 from 7. Cap compares its Pro plan with Loom's $18 Business plan, and includes unlimited cloud storage plus AI titles, summaries, chapters and transcripts. It is open source and can be self-hosted. Tella costs $26 a month per user, or $13 billed yearly, with clips up to 6 hours, and it imports Loom libraries through its free Tella Transfer app. Supercut costs $18 a seat a month, or $15 billed yearly, with Auto-Edit, chapters and summaries included, and teams switching from Loom get Supercut Pro free until their Loom term ends. Viewers are free on both Tella and Supercut, so only the people who record need a seat.
Supercut is a UK-registered company that stores data in Ireland, which may suit UK buyers. Cap's Windows version and Tella's Windows app are both described as beta.
The free options and their limits: - Cap: free for personal use, with 4K export and share links up to five minutes - Kite: every major feature with unlimited exports, but each export carries a watermark - Medal: game clipping, editing and sharing with ads, uploads up to 20 minutes at 1080p and 60fps - Tella: a 7-day trial without a card, then no recording or exporting without paying - Supercut: a 14-day trial from your first recording, with no card needed - CleanShot X: no trial, but a 30-day money-back guarantee
Medal scores 4.8 on Google Play from 24,100 ratings, 4.7 on the UK App Store from 3,151 and 3.6 on Trustpilot from 293, where reviewers report missing clips and overlay crashes. It records game, microphone and Discord audio on separate tracks. The UK App Store lists Premium, there called Medal Gold, at £7.99 a month or £76.99 a year, which removes ads and allows unlimited upload length at up to 4K and 144fps. It runs on Windows with phone apps, and has no Mac version.
CleanShot X Basic keeps working after its first year, with optional updates at $19 a year, and every Mac feature is in both plans; Pro, at $10 a month on yearly billing, only adds unlimited cloud storage and team features. Cap's $29 yearly or $58 lifetime licence covers commercial local recording.
Yearly billing helps on subscriptions. Tella halves its price, Kite saves 30% or more, taking Pro from $59 to $40 a month, and Cap Pro saves 32%. Students get 30% off Cap and CleanShot X, and Tella gives educators and students six months of Pro free, then 50% off, with 50% off for registered charities, UK charities included.
Cap runs on Linux as well as Mac and Windows. CleanShot X is Mac only and Medal records on Windows.
CleanShot X has a 30-day money-back guarantee. Kite lets UK and EU customers cancel an annual plan within 14 days if no watermark-free export has been made, while Supercut says fees are non-refundable unless stated otherwise.
Tella's paid plans allow clips up to 6 hours, and Supercut allows videos up to one hour each. Cap's free share links stop at five minutes.
Supercut stores data in Ireland and states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. Cap can be self-hosted with your own storage, and CleanShot X's cloud is run by an EU company with ISO 27001 certification.
Kite includes AI voiceovers with thousands of voices and supports your own ElevenLabs voices. Its free plan includes 1,000 sample voiceover characters.
